DISCOVER BIBLE | WHY? WHY IN JUDGES SUCH A LAWLESS PERIOD?

1. Introduction

a) The Bible is full of wonderful stories and special truth. What we want to do is to discover the Bible.

b) Psalm 119:11 says, "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You."

c) Nurture and grow your understanding of the Bible as you read and discover the Bible.

2. Why? Why such a lawless period?

a) There were not enough models of Godly living to permeate the families of Israel. The mothers and fathers who bred this generation of Israelites had been born in Egypt or the Wilderness. All of those who first entered Canaan with Joshua were born in the Wilderness.

b) As they entered the land, they were disobedient. They did not follow the orders God plainly gave to them to create a holy territory. Inside the borders was to be one thing... the worship of Jehovah.

c) Instead, they endorsed a "pluralistic society," where each person could do what they desired to do, as long as they did not hurt anyone else. The evil of this compromise is that truth no longer exists for anyone. Each person is the final judge of "right" or 'wrong." We are experiencing such life-style today. It never brought any meaning or peace to Israel, and it will not bring any peace to us! We may not be able to change all society, but there is one place we can keep sacred... our own lives. We Christians compose a special group of people called the "body of Christ." Holy living is a necessity.

d) The authorship of the Book of Judges is probably Samuel.
