DISCOVER BIBLE | KEY NOTES (1 & 2 SAMUEL)

1. Introduction

a) The Bible is full of wonderful stories and special truth. What we want to do is to discover the Bible.  

b) Psalm 119:11 says, "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." 

c) Nurture and grow your understanding of the Bible as you read and discover the Bible.  

2. Key Notes:

a) In Hebrew Bible, 1 and 2 Samuel appear as one book: Samuel. 1 and 2 Kings appear as simply Kings. The four books are collectively called "The Books of the Kingdoms."

b) The theme of 1 and 2 Samuel is the establishment of the Kingdom. The theme of 1 and 2 Kings is the taking away of the Kingdom.

c) The Holy Spirit's purpose running through these books is not to give the history of Samuel, Saul, and David, but rather to interpret the relation of these men to the establishment of the Kingdom.

d) Samuel laid its foundation.

e) Saul tried to establish it and failed.

f) David succeeded in establishing it.
