THE HIGHEST MARK

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Highest, Mightiest, Greatest

a) In Romans 1:4, Paul represents Jesus Christ our Lord as a man above all. He has been granted the highest mark, the mightiest power, and the greatest miracle (his resurrection).

Romans 1:4
“4Jesus Christ our Lord, marked out to be the Son of God, in power through the Spirit of Holiness, having risen from the dead.”

2. The Highest Mark

a) “Marked out to be the Son of God.” This mark or designation is the status and authority of Jesus Christ. Christ stands far higher than Caesar on earth, and far higher than Michael the archangel in heaven (Ephesians 1:20-21).

b) “God raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places — far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” (Ephesians 1:20-21).

c) The status of Jesus Christ is expressed by Paul again, in his declaration that Christ Jesus was given "the name which is above every name" and at that name "every knee shall bow" (Philippians 2:9-10).

d) “God highly exalted Jesus, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name bestowed on Jesus every knee will bow — those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth,” (Philippians 2:10; Isaiah 45:23).

f) Isaiah gives the royal titles to which Jesus has right: "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6-7). We recognize these as titles of the Father which Jesus has been granted to share with him as his unique Son (John 1:1,14).
