0. Introduction

a) For the Gospel writers, one of the main reasons for believing in Jesus was the way his life fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah.

b) Following is one of the main prophecies.

1. Messiah was to be betrayed by one of his followers.

a) Psalms 41:9

i) ⁹ Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. (Psalms 41:9 NKJV)

3. New Testament Fulfillment 

a) Matthew 26:14-16

i) ¹⁴ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests ¹⁵ and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. ¹⁶ So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him. (Matthew 26:14-16 NKJV)
