MESSIANIC PROPHECIES & FULFILLMENTS (5)

0. Introduction

a) For the Gospel writers, one of the main reasons for believing in Jesus was the way his life fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah.

b) Following is one of the main prophecies.

1. Messiah was to be rejected by his own people.

2. Old Testament Prophecies

a) Isaiah 53:1-3; Psalms 118:22

i)  Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. 3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. (Isaiah 53:1-3 NKJV)

ii) 22 The stone which the builders rejected, Has become the chief cornerstone. (Psalms 118:22 NKJV)

3. New Testament Fulfillment

a) Matthew 26:3-4

i) 3 Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 and plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him. (Matthew 26:3-4 NKJV)
