0. Introduction

a) For the Gospel writers, one of the main reasons for believing in Jesus was the way his life fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah.

b) Following is one of the main prophecies.

1. Others were to cast lots for Messiah's garments.

2. Old Testament Prophecies

a) Psalms 22:18

i) ¹⁸ They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots. (Psalms 22:18 NKJV)

3. New Testament Fulfillment

a) Matthew 27:35

i) ³⁵ Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: “They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.” (Matthew 27:35 NKJV)
