YOUR WORDS REVEAL YOUR HEART
Bible Verse: Luke 6:45
“For of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”
1-Minute Explanation
Jesus teaches that our words reveal what is happening within us. We can carefully manage our public appearance, but pressure often exposes what is truly stored in the heart. Anger, criticism, pride, jealousy, bitterness and insecurity can eventually emerge through our speech. Likewise, a heart filled with grace, gratitude, love and faith will increasingly produce words that reflect those qualities.
THE TWIST
The question is not simply, “Why did I say that?” The deeper question is, “What was already inside me that caused those words to come out?” We often blame circumstances, other people or our emotions for our speech, but Jesus directs our attention deeper—to the condition of the heart.
WHAT CAN I LEARN?
I learn that changing vocabulary without changing the heart is insufficient. Real transformation must reach the source of our words. If my speech repeatedly reveals anger, bitterness or pride, I need to allow God to address the underlying condition.
HOW DOES IT APPLY TO ME?
What do my words reveal about me? How do I speak when I am angry? How do I speak about people who are not present? What do I say when someone succeeds and I do not? My conversations can become a spiritual mirror showing me what needs attention within my heart.
FINAL REFLECTIONS
My words are more than sounds. They can build or destroy, heal or wound, encourage or discourage. Before asking God to give me better words, I should ask Him to give me a transformed heart.
PRAYER
Lord, purify my heart and my speech. Help me recognize what my words reveal about my inner condition. Remove bitterness, pride, jealousy and anger from me. Fill my heart with Your love, truth, grace and wisdom so that what comes from my mouth will honour You and bless others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
TAKEAWAY
What comes out of my mouth often reveals what is living in my heart.
