KEY TABERNACLE PIECES' SIGNIFICANCE

0. Key tabernacle pieces' significance

1. Ark of the Testimony (Ark of the Covenant)

i) Function & Significance:

@1. A golden rectangular box that contained the 10 Commandments.

@2. Symbolized God's covenant with Israel's people.

@3. Located in the Most Holy Place.

 2. Mercy Seat

ii) Function & Significance:

@1. The lid to the ark of the Testimony.

@2. Symbolized the presence of God among his people. 


3. Veil (Curtain)

iii) Function & Significance:

@1. The curtain that divided the two sacred rooms of the tabernacle - the holy place and the Most Holy Place.

@2. Symbolized how the people were separated from God because of sin. 





4. Table

iv) Function & Significance:

@1. A wooden table located in the holy place of the tabernacle. The showbread and various utensils were kept on this table. 

5. Showbread

v) Function & Significance:

@1. Twelve (12) loaves of baked bread, one for each tribe of Israel.

@2. Symbolized the spiritual nourishment God offers his people. 


6. Lampstands and Lamps

vi) Function & Significance:

@1. A golden lampstand located in the holy place, which held 7 burning oil lamps.

@2. The lampstand lighted the holy place for the priests. 









7. Altar of Incense

vii) Function & Significance:

@1. An altar in the holy place in front of the curtain.

@2. Used for burning God's special incense and symbolic of acceptable prayer. 






8. Anointing Oil

viii) Function & Significance:

@1. A special oil used to anoint the priests and all the pieces in the tabernacle.

@2. A sign of being set apart for God.










9. Altar of Burnt Offering

ix) Function & Significance:

@1. The bronze altar outside the tabernacle used for the sacrifices.

@2. Symbolized how sacrifice restored one's relationship with God.




10. Laver

x) Function & Significance:

@1. A large wash basin outside the tabernacle used by the priests to cleanse themselves before performing their duties.

@2. Symbolized the need for spiritual cleansing.
