DISCOVER BIBLE | EVEN MOSES HAD EXCUSES

1. Introduction

a) The Bible is full of wonderful stories and special truth. What we want to do is to discover the Bible.

b) Psalm 119:11 says, "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You."

c) Nurture and grow your understanding of the Bible as you read and discover the Bible.

2. Even Moses had excuses:

a) Personal inadequacy in light of past - Exodus 3:11.

Exodus 3:11 New International Version (NIV)

11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

b) Religious experience considered inadequate; knowledge and experience limited - Exodus 3:13.

Exodus 3:13 New International Version (NIV)

13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”

c) Others would reject him as a spiritual man. Felt his personal testimony would be discounted - Exodus 4:1.

Exodus 4:1 New International Version (NIV)

Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?”

d) Did not possess talent equal to the task - Exodus 4:10.

Exodus 4:10 New International Version (NIV)

10 Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”

3. The disclosure of God's Name:

a) Exodus 3:13-14 New International Version (NIV)

13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”

14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

i) JHWH: the verb form for "I will be" is identical to this. The use of the double verb here, "I AM WHO I AM" means, "I shall continually be that which I have always been;" or, "I will be all that is necessary as the occasion will arise."

b) Exodus 3:15 New International Version (NIV)

15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’

“This is my name forever,
the name you shall call me
    from generation to generation.

i) Verse 15: "This is My name forever, and this is My memorial name to all generations."
