ADULTERY (1)

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Bible Topic

a) To learn what the Bible has to say on a variety of topics affecting our everyday lives, we may find what we are looking for here.

2. Adultery

a) Why is adultery a sin? God’s commandments forbid adultery. It’s in the Bible, Exodus 20:14, NIV. “You shall not commit adultery.”

b) God created marriage at the beginning. It’s in the Bible, Matthew 19:4-6, “And He answered and said to them, ‘Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning “made them male and female,” and said, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.’”

c) To leave your spouse for another person may be legal, but it is adultery in God’s eyes. It’s in the Bible, Matthew 19:9, NKJV. “And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”

e) What is considered adultery? It is not just physical, but can happen in your mind, with the internet, magazines, movies, or people. It’s in the Bible, Matthew 5:27, 28, NIV. “You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” The Ten Commandments also forbid lust. “you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife,” (Exodus 20:17, NKJV).

f) Adultery begins in the heart before it becomes physical. It’s in the Bible, Matthew 15:19, NKJV. “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.”
