Introduction: The Overwhelming Story
We all love to listen to a great story. Whether a legend, a book, or a feature film, a story is usually overwhelming—not able to be resisted. But the most overwhelming stories are the ones that connect with God's story for a greater story. The Wuhan Chronicles is precisely such a narrative—a tale where human weakness meets divine power, where reluctant servants become ambassadors of the King, and where the Spirit of God moves mightily through the "few and weak" to accomplish His purposes.
At the heart of this story stands a foundational promise: "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty — you will succeed because of my Spirit, though you are few and weak" (Zechariah 4:6). This verse is not merely a Scripture text; it is the theological lens through which every event in this journey must be understood.
Part One: The Beginning of the First Wave
The Prophetic Words (20.06.2016 & 08.08.2016)
In any great story, there is a beginning. The beginning of this story was not a human decision but a divine revelation. On 20 June 2016, the Lord placed a prophetic word upon the writer's heart: "Wuhan is a strategic centre for revival in China." Again, on 8 August 2016 at 6:12 am, the Lord gave another word—this time for Wuhan as the city representing China.
These prophetic words were the seeds from which everything else grew. They came not because the writer was seeking a mission; they came because God was initiating one. The "few and weak" servant was simply going about his morning walking exercise—his devotion time—when the Lord dropped these words into his heart. This reveals a crucial truth: the Spirit does not wait for our readiness; He creates our readiness. He speaks first, often when we are not even looking for direction.
Reflection: Zechariah 4:6 reminds us that success comes by the Spirit, not by human initiative. The prophetic words were the Spirit's initiation of a divine assignment.
The Reluctant Servant
The writer's initial response to his friend's invitation to the China School of Prophets was not enthusiasm but reluctance. He was "not keen at all" after hearing about the school, its principal, its academic dean, and its Chinese students. This is a crucial detail that reveals the human weakness Zechariah 4:6 speaks of. The writer had no ambition to go to China. He had no plan, no strategy, no burning desire to launch a mission. He was simply praying for others—for his friend, the principal, the academic dean, and the students.
It was in this posture of intercession, not in a posture of ambition, that the prophetic words came. God chose a reluctant servant because He wanted the glory to be clearly His. The "might" and "power" of human initiative were absent; only the Spirit's prompting remained.
Reflection: God often chooses the reluctant because their inadequacy becomes the platform for His sufficiency. When we are weak, He is strong.
The Prophetic Paper and the Divine Confirmation
The writer responded to the prophetic words by writing a "Wuhan Prophetic Paper for China" and emailing it to the principal and academic dean. He thought his job was finished. But the Spirit had other plans. The writer "felt the Lord wanted me to go to the school to personally deliver the prophetic paper to some 100 students."
This feeling—this divine prompting—was not a logical conclusion. There was no practical reason to travel to China simply to deliver a paper that had already been emailed. But the Spirit's logic is not human logic. He often asks us to take steps that make no sense in the natural, precisely so that we cannot claim credit for the outcome.
The writer asked the Lord for two things: (1) the principal must invite him personally, and (2) God's tangible presence and heavy anointing would be in the midst of the meetings. These conditions were not signs of doubt; they were signs of wisdom. The writer understood that the work must be initiated by God and empowered by God.
The confirmation came in a remarkable way. At the second house meeting in Klang, the friend brought up the subject of the prophetic paper. The principal asked about it, the writer briefly explained, and the principal simply said, "I want you in Wuhan." This moment was the divine confirmation. The Spirit had been working behind the scenes, arranging circumstances, opening doors, and bringing the right people together at the right time.
Reflection: When the Spirit initiates a work, He also confirms it. The confirmation often comes through circumstances that no human could have orchestrated.
Part Two: One Month Before the First Trip
The Prophetic Message for the Resort Owner
One month before the first trip, the Lord dropped a prophetic message for a Chinese lady, the owner of a big resort in Wuhan. The writer wrote it on WhatsApp and sent it to the academic dean, who forwarded it to her lady assistant for translation.
This was not a message the writer sought to deliver; it was given by the Spirit. The sequence of events shows that God was already moving in Wuhan before the team ever set foot there. The prophetic message was not a human strategy to gain favor; it was a divine initiative to prepare a heart.
The Prior Encounter
The writer had previously met this Chinese lady when his friend arranged an introduction to the school principal at Cheras Sentral Mall. On that day, the writer spoke encouraging words to her through an interpreter, and the interpreter confirmed that these words were a confirmation for her. Later, she gestured that the writer should come and visit Wuhan.
This encounter, which seemed casual at the time, was actually a divine appointment. The Spirit was planting seeds of connection and confirmation long before the journey began. The "few and weak" servant was simply being obedient in the moment, unaware that this meeting would open doors for the entire Wuhan mission.
The Airport Welcome and the President Suite
When the team's flight arrived at Wuhan airport, the Chinese lady and her assistant were already there waiting to pick them up, despite the late hour and the cold winter night. This was not a coincidence; it was the Spirit's arrangement. The lady's eagerness to receive them demonstrated that the prophetic message had deeply touched her heart.
The lady placed the team in a chalet for one night and then transferred them to a President suite with an adjacent dining room, master bedroom, and toilet. This was extraordinary hospitality, far beyond what could have been expected or requested. In the natural, this was simply generous treatment from a wealthy resort owner. But in the Spirit, it was a sign of favor—God opening the hearts of influential people to His servants.
The Wailing Wall Confirmation
The most powerful moment was the lady's testimony: every time she saw the prophetic message, tears rolled from her eyes. The reason? The prophetic message given to her was exactly the same in context as the secret prayer she had written and placed in the wailing wall in Jerusalem. Nobody knew about it except God.
This is a breathtaking confirmation of the Spirit's work. The lady had poured out her heart in secret, in a place far from Wuhan, and God had seen it. He had preserved her prayer and, months or years later, answered it through a prophetic message delivered by a servant from another country. The writer had no knowledge of her secret prayer; he was merely delivering what the Spirit gave him. Yet, the Spirit knew exactly what she had written in that wall.
Reflection: This is the omniscience of God—His ability to connect a secret prayer in Jerusalem with a prophetic word in Malaysia, delivered through a "few and weak" servant to a Chinese lady in Wuhan. The Spirit goes before us, confirming His word through supernatural connections.
Part Three: The Wuhan Prophetic Paper
The Prophetic Word for Wuhan (China)
"You shall see this day my greater power and anointing. Your people shall be restored and revived. I shall show you greater things to come. The spiritual atmosphere in your place will be like a powerhouse, releasing much greater anointing than before. My angels on assignment will be around to counter the schemes of the enemies. My Spirit will fill you to overflowing. You shall be touched to the core. There shall be much release of my Spirit with signs and wonders in your place. 'Come O Wuhan (China)! Come! Let me put you under the shadow of my wings. You shall soar like an eagle and do great exploits. My statues and testimony shall be in your lips all day long.'"
The Prophetic Word for Wuhan as the Centre for the CROSS
Wuhan is a strategic centre for revival in China. Just as in Acts 1:8, "...my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth," Wuhan shall be the base for directions to North, to South, to East and to West of China. The people that come shall catch these visionary directions from the Lord. God shall set their hearts for the work of ministry in the cities North, South, East and West of Wuhan. You shall see Wuhan is the centre for the CROSS.
This prophetic paper was the foundational document for the entire Wuhan mission. It established Wuhan as a strategic centre—not just for revival but as a base for directions to all corners of China. The image of the CROSS—with Wuhan at the centre—was a powerful visual of how God intended to use this city as a launching pad for ministry throughout the nation.
Part Four: The Five Trips to Wuhan
The First Trip (November 2016): The School of Prophets
Key Events:
The writer presented the Wuhan Prophetic Paper to some 100 students
Met an influential local pastor who had the same vision—that Wuhan is the centre for the CROSS—seven years earlier
The pastor was keen to get the writer to speak in a prophetic conference

God does not change His mind; He prepares His servants and His people over time. The "few and weak" servant was stepping into a work that God had been preparing for years.
The Second Trip (April/May 2017): The Prophetic Conference

Four-day prophetic conference with some 120 participants from other cities
Focus on the subject of "Prophesy"
Teaching on operating in the simple gift of prophecy
Participants formed rows and prophesied to each other
Those who could not prophesy were prayed for and imparted with the gift
Many fell by the power of the Holy Spirit
Manifestations: oil deposits and gold dust in participants' hands
Spiritual warfare impartation: Chinese ancient weapons revealed (drums/gong, swords, spears, shields)
A lady visibly displayed the weapon prayed by the pastor
Reflection: The impartation of the prophetic gift is a direct demonstration of Zechariah 4:6. The gift was not earned or manufactured; it was imparted by the Spirit. The manifestations—oil, gold dust, and spiritual weapons—were physical evidence of a spiritual reality. The writer's observation that "when God works, the devil also works very hard at the same time" is a sobering reminder that Spirit-led ministry attracts spiritual opposition. But "in the end, God overrules."
The Third Trip (September 2017): The Guangshui Conference

The writer's humble response—"It was God who changed everything"—is a direct application of Zechariah 4:6. The team took no credit; they pointed to the Spirit as the author of it all.
The Fourth Trip (March/April 2018): The Small House Church in Wuchang

The gradual increase—"the number grew as each day passed by"—was the Spirit's faithful attraction. The pastor and his wife, who had witnessed the Spirit's power throughout the conference, were themselves touched on the last day. This is the Spirit's pattern: He begins with the small and weak to demonstrate that the power is His.
The Fifth Trip (June 2018): The Healing Sessions
Key Events:
Three-week stay in Wuhan
Another house church in Wuchang
Lady pastor requested prayer for her co-workers on the first day
God showed up immediately

Visitors from the 3-self church: a lady senior pastor and a teacher

Reflection: This trip answers the question, "Does it end well?" The answer is a resounding yes. The Spirit's work in Wuhan was marked by deep healing, deliverance, transformation, and emotional connection. The healing sessions brought freedom from generational curses and evil spirits. The personal ministry brought relief to heart-broken leaders. The church experienced a turnaround in its spiritual atmosphere and relationships. And the tearful parting at the lift was a testament to the deep love and bonds created by the Spirit.
The writer's question—"Everyone is excited to know what happens towards the end of a story... Does it end well?"—is answered by the evidence: "We see a tremendous change, a turn around of not only the spiritual atmosphere but also the relationship of the people in this church." This is the fruit of the Spirit's work.
The Sixth Trip (September 2019): Greater Intensity

The lady pastor invited the team to come again
One-week stay in Wuchang
God did the many wonderful things as before, but with greater intensity
Reflection: The sixth trip demonstrates that the Spirit's work deepens over time. The "greater intensity" is a sign that the Spirit was not finished with Wuhan. The hunger for more of God was being satisfied, but it was also creating an even deeper hunger. This is the Spirit's ongoing invitation: "Come, drink, and be filled."
Part Five: Why China? Why Me?
Why China?
The answer is simple: because the people of China are so hungry for God. They want a tangible touch of His presence and a heavy anointing. This hunger is not manufactured; it is the Spirit's work, creating a deep thirst for more of God. The team did not go to China because of strategic planning or demographic analysis; they went because the Spirit had prepared hearts.
The team went on their own expense, trusting that God would take care of them. And He did. He never failed them. The hospitality and love shown by the local pastors were evidence of God's provision. Each trip, they had no idea where they would minister. They subjected themselves to the local pastors, trusting that the Spirit would guide them through local leaders.
They knew what God's assignment was even before they left. They saw themselves as ambassadors delivering His royal edict for that season. The results—the mighty move of the Holy Spirit—were the fruit of allowing the Spirit to have His own way.
The most personal and profound question is: "Why me?" The writer acknowledges his inadequacy—he cannot speak Mandarin but only English. There are others more eager to go to China. Why would God give this assignment to him?
This question resonates with every believer who has ever felt unqualified for God's call. The writer's honesty is refreshing. He recognizes his limitations and the seeming irrationality of God's choice. But then he arrives at a transformative truth:
"When the Lord calls you, He never makes any mistakes. He knows you and you alone can only fulfill His assignment."
This is the key to understanding the entire narrative. God's choice of the writer was not an error or an oversight. It was deliberate, sovereign, and perfect. The writer's inadequacies—his inability to speak Mandarin, his lack of eagerness—were not obstacles to God; they were the very conditions in which the Spirit could demonstrate His power.
Zechariah 4:6 is fulfilled in this truth. The writer was "few and weak" in every natural sense. He could not rely on his own might (his language skills or persuasive ability) or his own power (his resources or connections). He had to rely entirely on the Spirit. And the Spirit did not fail.
The concluding exhortation is powerful: "Don't look at your inadequacy. Count it a privilege for God to call you for such an assignment." This is not a denial of weakness; it is a redirection of focus. Instead of staring at our limitations, we are to look at the privilege of being chosen by God. The call is not about us; it is about Him. Our inadequacy is not a reason to refuse; it is a reason to trust.
Conclusion: The Spirit's Faithfulness from Beginning to End
The Wuhan Chronicles is a story of the Spirit's faithfulness from beginning to end. It began with a prophetic word during a morning walk and culminated in healing sessions, deliverance, and transformation. The "few and weak" servants saw God's Spirit accomplish what no human might or power could achieve.
The journey reveals several key truths:
The Spirit initiates. The prophetic words came first, not as a response to human ambition but as a divine revelation. The Spirit speaks first; we respond.

The Spirit transforms. The tremendous change in spiritual atmosphere and relationships was the fruit of the Spirit's presence. He does not leave things as they were.
The Spirit sustains. Through six trips, the Spirit continued to move, deepening His work and increasing His intensity. He does not start a work and abandon it.
The Spirit chooses the weak. The writer's inadequacy—his inability to speak Mandarin, his reluctance, his lack of resources—was not an obstacle but the platform for God's power. "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit."
The Final Word
The question posed in the narrative—"Does it end well?"—is answered by the evidence of the Spirit's work. The journey to Wuhan did not end in disappointment, burnout, or failure. It ended with transformation, healing, deliverance, and deep emotional connection. But more importantly, it ended with the knowledge that the work was the Spirit's work from beginning to end.
However, the ending is also a beginning. The promise to return—"we would come back"—hints that the Spirit's work in Wuhan was ongoing. The journey did not truly end; it continued in the hearts of those who were touched and in the anticipation of future visits.
The writer's final words are a fitting conclusion to this remarkable story:
"When the Lord calls you, He never makes any mistakes. He knows you and you alone can only fulfill His assignment. Don't look at your inadequacy. Count it a privilege for God to call you for such an assignment."
