WHY SING KINGDOM ANTHEM?

(Message by Tanny Keng)

0. Introduction

a) What is an anthem?

i) It is defined as:

#1) a song, as of praise, devotion, or patriotism.

#2) a piece of sacred vocal music, usually with words taken from the Scriptures.

#3) a hymn sung alternately by different sections of a choir or congregation.

b) A country's national anthem (also national hymn, national song etc.) is a generally patriotic musical composition that evokes and eulogizes the history, traditions and struggles of its people, recognized either by a nation's government as the official national song, or by convention through use by the people. The majority of national anthems are either marches or hymns in style. The countries of Latin America tend towards more operatic pieces, while a handful of countries use a simple fanfare.

1. Why sing Kingdom Anthem?

a) While "The Lord's Prayer" (Matthew 6:9-13) was sung in our church on 12th January 2014 (Sunday) morning, this thought came to me: "Why not having an anthem for the Kingdom of God?" The Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 can be used as the Kingdom Anthem. After all, Jesus himself gave the model prayer for his disciples on how to pray.

b) The purpose of singing "The Lord's Prayer" is to acknowledge, give due respect, honor and praise to Father God for the 10 clauses:
  1. God's sovereignty.
  2. God's manifested Name
  3. Realization of God's kingdom.
  4. First mentions the earth.
  5. The gift of grace supplying our need.
  6. Treating man's sin.
  7. Pleading for spiritual guidance.
  8. Pleading for final deliverance from all evil.
  9. The divine glory.
  10. The eternal cycles.
2. The Lyrics for Kingdom Anthem

@1.Matthew 6:9-13 New King James Version (NKJV)

9Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Amen.

3. What should we do when the Kingdom Anthem is being played or sung?

a) As a form of due respect, honor and praise to Father God, we shall all arise (stand up) whenever the Kingdom Anthem is being played or sung in our home churches.

4. The Challenge

a) So, get cracking and come up with the best rainbow tune for the Kingdom Anthem and use it for your home churches.

The End ...
