THE SON OF GOD BECAME MAN (2)

1. The Son of God became Man

a) It was quite clear that the coming Deliverer would not be an angel or some other being. He would be a man.

b) Other promises said that God Himself would come to earth.

i) "And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us; this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation", Isaiah 25:9.

ii) "Behold, the Lord God comes", Isaiah 40:10.

c) John the Baptist was told to "prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God", Isaiah 40:3 and John 1:23.

d) Malachi prophesied, "The Lord whom ye seek shall suddenly come to His temple", Malachi 3:1.

e) Isaiah tells us some of the names of the coming King: "Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" Isaiah 9:6-7.

f) Another name is Emmanuel, which means, "God with us." He was to be born of a virgin, an unmarried woman, Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23. The Lord Jesus Christ was born without a human father.

g) How could the promised King and Savior be both God and a man? The New Testament answer is: Only if God became Man. This is called the Incarnation.

h) In Matthew 1 and Luke 2 we read how Christ was born of a virgin. In the letters of Paul there are verses that show very clearly indeed that the Son of God became Man.

@1. "Christ came, who is over all, God blessed forever", Romans 9:5.

@2. "The second Man is from heaven", 1 Corinthians 15:47.

@3. "God was manifest in the flesh", 1 Timothy 3:16.

i) Also read and think about the following verses: Galatians 4:4, Philippians 2:6-8, and Hebrews 2:14.

j) The eternal, uncreated  Son of God did not and could not stop being God when He became man. It is wonderful that God should want to become man. If He should want to, surely He could do so. He wanted to because He loves us, and He was able to because He can do everything.
