BIBLE PLACES | SHILOH

1. Shiloh

a) Shiloh is a town in Mount Ephraim about 20 miles north of Jerusalem. After the conquest of the land of Israel by Joshua, the Tabernacle was set up there. (Joshua 18:1), and it was there that Joshua distributed the territorial allotments to 7 of the 12 Tribes of Israel. Eli the Priest officiated in Shiloh.
It was there that Hannah gave her young son Samuel to the Lord, and Samuel was trained by Eli the Priest officiated in Shiloh. 

b) It was there that Hannah gave her young son Samuel to the Lord, and Samuel was trained by Eli the Priest. God appeared to Samuel here, and Samuel became known to all in Israel.

c) In a battle with the Philistines, the Ark was brought out of Shiloh and into the battle. Israel lost the battle, and the Ark was captured by the Philistines. After Israel regained the Ark, it was lodged at Kiriathjearim and never returned to Shiloh. Ahijah the prophet came from Shiloh. 

d) God gives several warnings in Psalm 78:55-61, and in Jeremiah, chapter 7, of how he abandoned his dwelling in Shiloh, because the Israelites provoked him with anger with their idol worship. Shiloh today is called Khirbat Saylun. Excavations have uncovered a 12-acre mound that contains the remains of Biblical Shiloh.
