Glorifying God by Our Faith: Trusting Him in Every Moment
What Does It Mean?
Faith is not merely a private belief; it is an act of worship that brings glory to God. When we trust God, we are declaring that He is faithful, powerful, and worthy of our confidence. But when we lack faith, give in to fear, or fail to trust Him, we are essentially telling God that we do not believe He can be relied upon. This is a serious matter, for faith is the very thing that pleases God and brings Him glory.
Jesus spoke 365 times about fear alone—one time for each day of the year. Was this an accident? We find it interesting that Jesus' second most frequent topic was not heaven, or sin, or hell, but fear, apprehension, and a lack of trust. This shows how much He wants us to live free from fear and to trust in Him completely. Fear is not just an unpleasant emotion; it is a failure to believe that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He has promised.
Abraham is a powerful example of faith that glorifies God. Paul writes in Romans 4:20, "Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God." Abraham's faith was not passive; it was active and steadfast. He did not allow doubt to undermine his trust in God's promise. Instead, he grew stronger in his faith, and through that faith, he gave glory to God. How did his faith glorify God? By demonstrating that God is trustworthy, faithful, and able to fulfill His promises.
Hebrews 11:6 declares, "Without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him." Faith is not optional for the believer; it is essential. It is the foundation of our relationship with God and the means by which we please Him. Hebrews 11, often called the "Hall of Faith," is full of examples of men and women who trusted God in impossible situations. Their faith was only as strong as the object of their faith: God Himself. Their trust was not in their own abilities but in the living God, who is faithful to His promises.
The Twist
The twist is that our faith is not for our own benefit alone; it is an act of worship that brings glory to God. When we trust Him, we are honoring His character and proclaiming His faithfulness. When we fear, we are dishonoring Him by acting as if He cannot be trusted. The same God who spoke to Abraham and promised him a son is the same God who speaks to us and promises us eternal life, forgiveness, and His presence. Our faith glorifies Him because it acknowledges that He is who He says He is.
Even more striking is the connection between faith and fear. Jesus spoke so often about fear because He knew that fear is the enemy of faith. Fear and faith cannot coexist. Where fear dominates, faith is diminished. But when we choose to trust God in the midst of our fears, we are declaring that He is greater than our circumstances. This is a powerful testimony to the world and a sweet offering to God.
The most profound truth is that faith glorifies God not because of its size but because of its object. Even a mustard seed of faith, when placed in the living God, brings Him glory. Abraham's faith was not perfect, but it was persistent. He stumbled, he doubted, and he made mistakes, but he never stopped trusting God. And through his faith, God was glorified. Our faith, no matter how imperfect, brings glory to God when it is placed in Him.
What Can I Learn?
First, faith brings glory to God. When we trust Him, we are honoring His character and proclaiming His faithfulness. Our faith is not just for our own benefit; it is an act of worship.
Second, fear is the enemy of faith. Jesus spoke so often about fear because He wants us to live free from it. When we give in to fear, we are acting as if God cannot be trusted. We must choose faith over fear.
Third, Abraham is a model of faith. He did not waver in unbelief but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God. We can learn from his example to persevere in trusting God, even when circumstances seem impossible.
Fourth, faith pleases God. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it is impossible to please Him. Faith is not optional; it is essential. It is the foundation of our relationship with God.
Fifth, the object of our faith is what matters. Our faith is only as strong as the object of our faith. When we trust in God, who is faithful and able, our faith is secure.
How Does It Apply to Me?
Examine your faith. Do you trust God, or do you give in to fear? Are you strengthened in your faith, or do you waver in unbelief? Ask God to strengthen your faith and to help you trust Him more.
Examine your fears. What fears are dominating your life? Are you afraid of the future, of failure, of rejection, or of death? Bring your fears to God and ask Him to replace them with faith.
Examine your worship. Do you see your faith as an act of worship? When you trust God, you are glorifying Him. Let your faith be a declaration of His faithfulness.
Examine your object of faith. Is your faith in God alone, or are you trusting in your own abilities, resources, or circumstances? Place your trust in the living God, who is faithful and able.
Examine your testimony. What does your faith say to others? When people see you trusting God in difficult circumstances, they see a testimony of His faithfulness. Let your faith be a witness to the world.
Final Reflections
Who is God in relation to our faith? He is the object of our faith, the One who is faithful to keep His promises, and the One who is glorified when we trust Him. He is the God of Abraham, who is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine. He is the God who rewards those who seek Him.
This is the God we trust. He is not distant or indifferent. He is near, faithful, and worthy of our confidence. He calls us to trust Him, to fear not, and to glorify Him through our faith.
Let us trust Him. Let us fear not. Let us glorify Him with our faith.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are faithful and worthy of our trust. We confess that we have often given in to fear and failed to trust You. Forgive us, Lord, and strengthen our faith.
Help us to trust You as Abraham did—without wavering, being strengthened in our faith, and giving glory to You. Teach us to fear not and to believe that You are who You say You are and that You will do what You have promised.
May our faith be an act of worship that brings glory to Your name. Let our lives be a testimony of Your faithfulness and a witness to Your power.
We thank You that without faith it is impossible to please You. We draw near to You, believing that You exist and that You reward those who seek You.
In the name of Jesus, our Lord and our Faithful Savior, Amen.
