MOTHERS OF KINGS: JERUSHA
(Message by Tanny Keng)
1. Mothers of Kings
a) Mothers of kings in 1 & 2 Kings and 1 & 2 Chronicles are often mentioned for their deeds. These mothers certainly had some influence in the young lives of their sons and in who they eventually turned out to be. There are many children with godly mothers who grow up and choose to do evil. And there are just as many children with bad mothers who grow up and choose to do good. But for the most part, the faith and the future of all children is shaped to some extent by the behavior, words and actions of their parents.
b) A child is a reflection of the woman who bore him or her – not only in appearance, but also in word, action, attitude and character. Mothers should never underestimate the influence that they and their faith have in their children’s lives. Mothers have the power to change the world by raising sons and daughters who will be bearers of light, proclaimers of truth, defenders of justice and forces of good.
c) Here we have one of the many records of mothers influencing their sons for good or evil.
2. Jerusha
i) Jerusha (2 Kings 15:33; 2 Chronicles 27:1) was the mother of Jotham, a king of Judah. He was crowned at twenty-five years of age and reigned for sixteen years. The Bible says he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
2 Kings 15:33 New King James Version (NKJV)
33 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jerusha the daughter of Zadok.
2 Chronicles 27:1 New King James Version (NKJV)
27 Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jerushah the daughter of Zadok.
The End ...
