CHRIST OUR HIGH PRIEST: A PRIEST LIKE MELCHIZEDEK
(Message by Tanny Keng)
1. Christ Our High Priest
a) We consider "the apostle and high priest of our confession, Christ Jesus" (Hebrews 3:1). In the book of Hebrews, we look at 9 points about Christ's priesthood.
2. A Priest Like Melchizedek
a) He is a priest according to the order of Melchizedek. This is a higher order than that of Levi and Aaron (Hebrews 5:5-11, Psalms 110:4).
b) Melchizedek was not only a priest but a king (Hebrews 7:1, Genesis 14:18-20).
c) Melchizedek was greater than Abraham from whom the the priestly tribe of Levi was descended (Hebrews 7:4-10).
d) If the priesthood of Levi and Aaron were perfect, a priest after the order of Melchizedek would not be required (Hebrews 7:11).
e) Our Lord was not descended from Levi but from Judah. The kings were descended from Judah, but not the priests. This means that a complete change of priesthood has taken place (Hebrews 7:12-14).
The End ...
