SYMBOLS OF TWELVE TRIBES: SIMEON

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Symbols Of Twelve Tribes

a) The Symbols of the Tribes are often depicted in Synagogues. The Book of Numbers tells us that each Tribe had its characteristic symbol used in its encampment.

Numbers 2:2
2 “Everyone of the children of Israel shall camp by his own standard, beside the emblems of his father’s house; they shall camp some distance from the tabernacle of meeting.

2. Simeon

a) Simeon is depicted by the entrance to a walled city representing the city of Schechem that Simeon with his brother Levi captured by subterfuge (Genesis 34:25).

Genesis 34:25
25 Now it came to pass on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword and came boldly upon the city and killed all the males.
