OT PROPHECIES | JESUS (16)
1. He would commend His spirit to God
a) Reference: Psalms 31:5
i) 5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth. (Psalms 31:5 NKJV)
b) Fulfillment: Luke 23:46; John 19:30
i) 46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’” Having said this, He breathed His last. (Luke 23:46 NKJV)
ii) 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. (John 19:30 NKJV)
2. Not one bone will be broken
a) Reference: Exodus 12:43-46; Psalms 34:19-20
i) 43 And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover: No foreigner shall eat it. 44 But every man’s servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then he may eat it. 45 A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat it. 46 In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones. (Exodus 12:43-46 NKJV)
ii) 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the Lord delivers him out of them all.
20 He guards all his bones;
Not one of them is broken. (Psalms 34:19-20 NKJV)
b) Fulfillment: John 19:33-36
i) 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. 36 For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.” (John 19:33-36 NKJV)
