SYMBOLS OF TWELVE TRIBES: ISSACHAR
(Message by Tanny Keng)
1. Symbols Of Twelve Tribes
a) The Symbols of the Tribes are often depicted in Synagogues. The Book of Numbers tells us that each Tribe had its characteristic symbol used in its encampment.
Numbers 2:2
2 “Everyone of the children of Israel shall camp by his own standard, beside the emblems of his father’s house; they shall camp some distance from the tabernacle of meeting.
2. Issachar
a) Issachar is an astronomical configuration here shown by the sun surrounded by stars. Issachar was to give Israel knowledge of times (1-Chronicles 12:32). This is understood to mean astronomical reckonings. Issachar is also sometimes represented by a donkey.
Genesis 49:14-15
14 “Issachar is a strong donkey,
Lying down between two burdens;
15 He saw that rest was good,
And that the land was pleasant;
He bowed his shoulder to bear a burden,
And became a band of slaves.
