OVERFLOWING ANOINTING

1. Overflowing Anointing

a) "Overflowing" means flow over the brim or edge of, run over, surplus, more than full or completes, be superabundant.

b) "Anointing" is a Spirit-given power for duties of the office, guaranteed God's aid, but not success. Success is depended upon the choice of man to appropriate the aid of God!" That's where faith and obedience are needed.

c) God's overflowing anointing will cause our cups, our portions, ours lots, our shares, our allotments, our emblems of glory, strength and honor to overflow with his richest blessings.

i) 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. (Psalms 23:5, 6 NKJV)

2. Saul's troops & Saul himself prophesied

a) Michal, Saul's daughter, wife of David helped David to escape from Saul's troops wanting to kill David when he came out in the morning from his house (1 Samuel 19:11 NLT)

b) 18So David escaped and went to Ramah to see Samuel, and he told him all that Saul had done to him. Then Samuel took David with him to live at Naioth. 19When the report reached Saul that David was at Naioth in Ramah, 20he sent troops to capture him. But when they arrived and saw Samuel leading a group of prophets who were prophesying, the Spirit of God came upon Saul’s men, and they also began to prophesy. 21When Saul heard what had happened, he sent other troops, but they, too, prophesied! The same thing happened a third time. 22Finally, Saul himself went to Ramah and arrived at the great well in Secu. “Where are Samuel and David?” he demanded. “They are at Naioth in Ramah,” someone told him. 23But on the way to Naioth in Ramah the Spirit of God came even upon Saul, and he, too, began to prophesy all the way to Naioth! 24He tore off his clothes and lay naked on the ground all day and all night, prophesying in the presence of Samuel. The people who were watching exclaimed, “What? Is even Saul a prophet?” (1 Samuel 19:18-24 NLT)

@1. Highlights:

i) Saul sent his troops to capture David, the Spirit of God came upon Saul’s men, and they also began to prophesy (1 Samuel 19:20 NLT)

ii) Saul sent other troops, but they too prophesied 1 Samuel 19:21 NLT).

iii) The same thing happened a third time. 1 Samuel 19:21 NLT).

iv) When Saul was on the way to Naioth in Ramah to find David, the Spirit of God came even upon Saul, and he, too, began to prophesy all the way to Naioth! He tore off his clothes and lay naked on the ground all day and all night, prophesying in the presence of Samuel (1 Samuel 19:22-24 NLT).

iv) So, we see that there was overflowing anointing when Samuel was leading a group of prophets who were prophesying (1 Samuel 19:20 NLT)

v) When a person is in the midst of a gathering and the anointing of God is so strong, the person and everyone around them has the ability to prophesy (to utter inspired word).

3. Balaam could't curse but prophesied blessings for Israel 3 times

a) 1st message for King Balak @Mount Bamoth-Baal

i) 5The Lord put a word in Balaam’s mouth and said, “Go back to Balak and give him this word" (Numbers 23:5 NIV)

ii) 8How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce (condemn) those whom the Lord has not denounced? (Numbers 23:8 NIV)

b) 2nd message for King Balak @Mount Pisgah

i) 16And the Lord met Balaam and gave him a message. Then he said, “Go back to Balak and give him my message.” Numbers 23:16 NLT)

ii) 20Listen, I received a command to bless; God has blessed, and I cannot reverse it! (Numbers 23:20 NLT)

iii) 23No curse can touch Jacob; no magic has any power against Israel. For now it will be said of Jacob, ‘What wonders God has done for Israel!’ (Numbers 23:23 NLT)

c) 3rd message for King Balak @Mount Peor

i) So Balak took Balaam to the top of Mount Peor, overlooking the wasteland. (Numbers 23:28 NLT)

ii) King Balak of Moab asked Balaam to curse Israel but instead Balaam bless the. This had already happened twice and now Balaam realized that he Lord was determined to bless Israel, so he did not go up to the mountain to meet God as before.

iii) 1By now Balaam realized that the Lord was determined to bless Israel, so he did not resort to divination (omen; magic) as before. Instead, he turned and looked out toward the wilderness, 2where he saw the people of Israel camped, tribe by tribe. Then the Spirit of God came upon him, (Numbers 24:1, 2 NLT)

#1) What is divination? Divination is the act of obtaining secret knowledge, especially that which relates to the future, by means within the reach almost exclusively of special classes of men.

#2) The Bible forbids occult practices i.e. certain methods for contacting the spirit world.

#3) 9When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord ; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. 13You must be blameless before the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 18:9-13 NIV)

#4) A good diviner, like Balaam, was adept at interpreting signs and omens. His desire was not only to learn the future, but to influence the present. Thus Balaam was hired to curse Israel. Diviners hope to break curses and forestall (act in advance of; counter) bad fate.

#5) 14Then the Lord said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds. (Jeremiah 14:14 NIV)

@1. Highlights:

i) Even Balaam tried his own way without consulting the Lord, the Spirit of God came upon him and he prophesied the blessing for Israel 3 times.

ii) Balaam was a practitioner of divination, hired to curse Israel yet God chose to sovereignly use him to bless Israel instead.

iii) 23For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord , he has rejected you as king.” (1 Samuel 15:23 NIV) - about King Saul!

iv) 1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. (1 Timothy 4:1-5 NIV)

v) 29The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 29:29 NIV). Always stick to Scripture!

4. Prayer focus

a) Pray that God will anoint us so that our cups will overflow with his blessings and others around us can enjoy the overflowing anointing.
