I. Jesus' lineage and birth 

1. Born in family of the Tribe of Judah

a) Reference: Genesis 49:10 i) 10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people. (Genesis 49:10 NKJV) b) Fulfillment: Luke 3:33

i) 33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah. (Luke 3:33 NKJV)

2. Lineage of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob a) Reference: Genesis 12:3, 17:17-19 i) 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3 NKJV) ii) 17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” 18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!” 19 Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. (Genesis 17:17-19 NKJV) b) Fulfillment: Matthew 1:1-2,16; Luke 3:34

i) The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:2 Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers. (Matthew 1:1-2 NKJV) ii) 16 And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ. (Matthew 1:16 NKJV) iii) 34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor. (Luke 3:34 NKJV)

3. Heir to the Throne of David a) Reference: Isaiah 9:6-7 i) 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6-7 NKJV) b) Fulfillment: Luke 1:32 i) 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. (Luke 1:32 NKJV)
