NUMBER TEN (10-22)
(Message by Tanny Keng)
0. Introduction
a) In the Bible the number 10 is used 242 times in scripture and "10th" is used 79 times. A historically significant number, 10 signifies testimony, law and responsibility. The number ten is also viewed as a complete number, as is 3, 7 and 12. Ten is made up of 4, the number of the physical creation, and 6, the number of man. It is interesting to note what other mention(s) for 10 can be found in the Bible.
1. What are the ten names repeated twice in a row?
a) Ten completes the perfect cycle of the repeated names. Moreover we shall note that these are divided significantly. Of these ten, seven are spoken directly to individual human beings, while three are spoken by the Lord in different connections. Of these seven, four are in the Old Testament, and three are in the New Testament.
i) Abraham, Abraham, Genesis 22:11.
ii) Jacob, Jacob, Genesis 46:2.
iii) Moses, Moses, Exodus 3:4.
iv) Samuel, Samuel, 1 Samuel 3:10.
v) Martha, Martha, Luke 10:41.
vi) Simon, Simon, Luke 22:31.
vii) Saul, Saul, Acts 9:4.
viii) Lord, Lord, Matthew 7:21,22, 25:11; Luke 6:46; 13:25.
ix) Eli, Eli, Mark 15:34; Matthew 27:46; Psalm 22:1.
x) Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Matthew 23:37; Luke 13:34.
