THE LORD'S EXAMPLE OF PRAYER
(Message by Tanny Keng)
1. The Lord’s Example Of Prayer
Matthew 6:9-13
9 “Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 ‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread.
12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’]
a) Jesus provides a prayer as an example, to help us pray as we ought. Jesus never intended this prayer to be a form of words that we recite at the end of, or instead of, our own prayers. Rather he said to pray "in this manner" (Matthew 6:9). It is an example of the WAY to pray, not of WHAT to pray about.
b) There are many more things to pray about than Jesus included in this sample prayer. But whatever the SUBJECT of our prayers, the MANNER in which we pray should be just as our Lord shows us in his example of prayer.
