SAFE WORD: RENEW
(Message by Tanny Keng)
0. Introduction
a) Many a time we use and speak word so easily without thinking much of whether such word is correct to use in our daily conversation. We treat it lightly. Word such as "LUCK" is not found in the Bible and yet we often use it.
b) Why is it so necessary to learn to use and speak the correct word? Matthew 12:36-37 has a lot to say about it.
i) 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37 NKJV)
c) We will have to give an account of ourselves (Romans 14:12), every idle (careless, empty, thoughtless, worthless) word we speak (Matthew 12:36) and every work (deed) including every secret (hidden) thing whether good or evil (Ecclesiastes 12:14) in the day of judgment. For that reason, it compels us to use and speak the correct word or words especially God's Word. It's safe to use and we can learn a lot from its intended meaning.
1. Safe word:
a) Renew(ed) (ing) - to regenerate or restore; to make new spiritually.
2. Biblical references:
a) Psalms 51:10; 103:5
i) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalms 51:10 NKJV)
ii) 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalms 103:5 NKJV)
b) Isaiah 40:31
i) 31 But those who wait on the Lord, Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV)
c) Romans 12:2
i) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2 NKJV)
d) 2 Corinthians 4:16
i) 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. (2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJV)
e) Ephesians 4:23
i) 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. (Ephesians 4:23 NKJV)
