MARKS OF THE MINISTRY

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Marks Of The Ministry

a) In Colossians Paul mentions many of the marks that characterise a true minister and his ministry. To be sure, some of these apply to all Christians in general, but then all Christians are ministers to some extent, and to whatever degree one is a minister of the gospel, one must attain to the high standard set by the Lord.

b) Some of these marks are:

i) Faith in Christ and love for all the saints (Colossians 1:4).

ii) Walking in a manner worthy of the Lord (Colossians 1:10).

iii) Strong, steadfast, patient (Colossians 1:11,23).

iv) Fully carrying out his stewardship from God (Colossians 1:24-25).

v) A true knowledge of God’s mystery (Colossians 2:2).

vi) Attitude of gratitude (Colossians 2:7).

vii) Not acting as a judge in man-made rules (Colossians 2:16 ).

viii) Not a false teacher (Colossians 2:18).

ix) A mind set on heavenly things (Colossians 3:1-2).

x) A heart of compassion, kindness, humility, etc (Colossians 3:12-15).

xi) Doing all in the name of the Lord Jesus (Colossians 3:17).

xii) Devoted to prayer (Colossians 4:2,12).

xiii) Wise among outsiders, seizing opportunities (Colossians 4:5).

xiv) Proving to be an encouragement to other ministers (Colossians 4:11).

xv) Taking heed to his ministry, careful to fulfill it (Colossians 4:17).
