SEVEN UTTERANCES: JOHN 19:30

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Seven Utterances

a) The Seven Utterances of Jesus, while he was dying on the cross, have been a subject of meditation for all Christians.

b) Here is one of the utterances.

2. “It Is Finished!”

John 19:30
30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

a) In this utterance we see the satisfaction of Jesus. The question of what Jesus meant by "it" is a cause for much discussion. It is natural to take it that he meant the ordeal of crucifixion was finished.

b) It is also natural to suppose he meant his whole journey through earthly life, from birth to death, was finished. What we do know for certain, is that Jesus is both "the author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2), and what he started he saw through to the very end.

The End ...
