MONEY: BUDGETING PRINCIPLES

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Money

a) The Bible has much to say about money.  Many would be surprised that Jesus spoke about money more times than he spoke about heaven and hell.  In fact, He talked about money more than any topic except the kingdom of God.

b) Eleven of the thirty-nine parables in Scripture talk about money.  Money is on our minds most of the time. One of the biggest “worries” that many have is surrounding the topic of money.  Money seems to be the universal symbol for greed.  Jesus used this topic because we all can relate.  We need money to survive.  We all have an inner desire to have more and more.

c) Tithing and giving is also a popular topic in Scripture .  Why all of this talk about money?  Well there are many reasons but issues about money often will show what things are important or have control of our lives.  Jesus knew that.  He didn’t talk about money because He needed it to build His kingdom.  Never.  No Jesus knew that money and the love of money would control us in many circumstances.

d) Sometimes money will affect us in a business sense too.  We may make a wrong decision about money (often closely associated with greed) and that decision may hinder and affect us for many years to come.

1 Corinthians 16:2
On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.

2. Budgeting Principles

Proverbs 22:3
The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.

Proverbs 24:3-4
By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;  by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Proverbs 27:23
Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds.

Luke 14:28-30
For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?  Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,  saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’

The End ...
