JOHN THE BAPTIST: HERALDING GOD WITH US

1. John The Baptist

a) Now the Messiah comes and the new Israel is established. This leads us into the Times of Israel —The Coming of the Son of God — during which Old Testament times conclude, and New Testament times begin.

2. Heralding God With Us

a) The Son of God came into the world about 2000 years after God called Abraham. When Jesus grew to manhood, his ministry was heralded by the prophet John. John proclaimed Jesus and preached repentance, and baptism for remission of sins (Mark 1:4-8). His mission was to prepare the people for the Lord (Luke 1:16-17). After John's ministry, Jesus himself went about preaching the gospel, and healing the sick (Mark 1:14, 21-28).

b) Jesus was rejected by the religious leaders, however, and eventually was crucified as a common criminal although he had done no wrong. His death was a sacrifice for all sin for all time. John the Baptizer had proclaimed Jesus as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world" (John 1:29-30).
