Keep Going
Keep Going
A 5-Minute Devotional for Busy PeopleMinute 1: The Hook
You're exhausted.
Not the kind of tired a nap fixes. The kind that seeps into your bones — the relentless grind of showing up when no one notices, giving when the tank is empty, believing when the evidence says quit.
You've been passed over. Talked about. Worked to the bone. And the whisper is getting louder: "What's the point?"
Maybe it's the marriage you're fighting for alone. The business that won't bloom. The faithfulness in a season with zero fruit. The obedience that feels like shouting into a void.
You're one "not yet" away from laying it all down.
Minute 2: The Scripture
Read Galatians 6:9 (ESV):
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
Now read the verse that makes this possible — Hebrews 12:2 (ESV):
"For the joy that was set before him [Jesus] endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."
Minute 3: The Twist
Here's the twist no one preaches in the motivational sermons:
Jesus didn't endure the cross because He felt like it. He endured it because He could see what was on the other side.
The Greek word for endured is hypomenō — it means to remain under, to bear up under pressure, to stay put when everything screams "run." But notice: Jesus despised the shame. He didn't pretend the pain wasn't real. He didn't slap a smile on suffering. He hated it. He felt it. And He kept going anyway.
Why? "For the joy that was set before him."
Joy wasn't a feeling in the moment. It was a future reality He chose to believe. He kept going not because the cross felt good, but because resurrection was coming.
And here's what that means for you: You don't need to feel motivated to keep going. You need to remember what you're going toward.
The seed you're planting today looks like dirt and darkness. But roots are forming where you cannot see. The harvest isn't absent — it's underground. And the only way to miss it is to dig it up too soon.
Minute 4: The Practice
Five minutes. Three moves. Right now.
Name the quit. Whisper out loud the thing you're tempted to walk away from. God already knows. But your soul needs to hear you choose Him over escape.
Set your eyes on the joy. Not the circumstance — the outcome. Say this: "I don't see it yet, but I choose to believe it's coming."
Take the next small step. Not the whole staircase. Just the next step. Send the email. Have the hard conversation. Pray the prayer. Show up one more time. Momentum follows movement.
Minute 5: The Prayer
Lord, I'm tired. The shame is loud, the progress is invisible, and quitting feels easier than continuing. But today, I choose endurance over escape. Like Jesus, I fix my eyes on the joy set before me — the harvest, the healing, the promise. I don't need to feel it to believe it. I don't need to see it to sow it. Strengthen my hands, steady my heart, and remind me that the cross always comes before the crown. I will not give up. In Jesus' name, Amen.
One Sentence to Carry With You Today:
The seed you refuse to dig up today becomes the harvest you celebrate tomorrow.
Now go. One more step. The roots are deeper than you know.
