BIBLE TIMELINE: NOAH (3000 B.C.)
(Message by Tanny Keng)
1. Life of Noah (3000 B.C.)
a) Noah, the firstborn son of Lamech, came into the world when his father was 182 years old! The Bible also tells us the origin of his name.
i) From the very ground on which the Lord put a curse, this child will bring us relief from all our hard work'; so he named him Noah. (Genesis 5:29)
b) The 'curse' spoken of by Lamech refers back to God's curse at the Garden of Eden which condemned man to a life of hard labor farming the land so that he could eat (Genesis 3:17-19). At the age of 480 God told Noah something he suspected based upon his experiences in life. Man, for generations, had been sliding steadily into a life dedicated to plotting and carrying out evil against others. What may have surprised Noah, however, was God's solution to the situation.
i) When the Lord God saw the extent of human wickedness, and that the trend and direction of men’s lives were only towards evil, 6 he was sorry he had made them. It broke his heart. 7 And he said, 'I will blot out from the face of the earth all mankind that I created. Yes, and the animals too, and the reptiles and the birds. For I am sorry I made them.' (Genesis 6:5-7, TLB)
c) God commanded Noah to build an ark and gave humans 120 years to repent before the floodwaters would come (Genesis 6:3). God’s warnings and the preaching of Noah, however, went entirely ignored. The deluge drowned all humans then living, estimated to be around one billion. Only eight people total survived the floodwaters.
i) God makes a promise to Noah to save him and his family (Genesis 6:18) from a watery death.
ii) Those saved to repopulate the earth after the deluge is Noah, his wife, his three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives.
iii) After the flood God blesses Noah and makes a covenant with him.
iv) Noah lived 350 years after the flood and died at the great age of 950. His passing was just 3 years before the birth of the next person we will review for our basic Bible timeline - Abram (Abraham).
a) Many years later God strongly suggested that Noah was one of the three more righteous people to have lived up to that time (Ezekiel 14:14, 20).

d) After the waters subsided and Noah left the ark, God promised never again to exterminate humans through a flood. He gave the rainbow as a sign to Noah and all those who would follow him that he would keep his promise (Genesis 9:12-13).
