WHAT HAS GOD DONE FOR YOU THIS WEEK?
Every week gives us another opportunity to recognize the goodness, faithfulness, and activity of God in our lives. Yet sometimes we move through our days so quickly that we fail to stop and ask a simple but important question:
“What has God done for me this week?”
The question is not merely about spectacular miracles. God is also present in the ordinary moments—the provision we received, the protection we did not see, the encouragement that came at the right time, the door that opened, the door that remained closed, the strength to continue when we felt like giving up, and the peace God gave us when circumstances were uncertain.
1. STOP AND REMEMBER
The Bible repeatedly calls God’s people to remember what He has done.
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”
— Psalm 103:2
Forgetting God’s goodness is easy. We remember the problems, disappointments, unanswered prayers, and difficult conversations. But we can easily overlook the many ways God carried us through the same week.
Perhaps you woke up this morning with another opportunity to live. Perhaps God protected you from something you never knew was coming. Perhaps someone encouraged you when you needed it. Perhaps you had food on the table, a place to sleep, work to do, people who cared about you, or simply the strength to face another day.
These things may appear ordinary, but they are still reasons to give thanks.
Before asking, “What do I still need?” ask, “What has God already done?”
1. NOT EVERY TESTIMONY LOOKS LIKE A MIRACLE
We sometimes think a testimony must involve something dramatic.
Someone was healed.
Someone received a financial breakthrough.
Someone’s prayer was answered.
Someone experienced an extraordinary miracle.
Those are wonderful testimonies. But God’s work in our lives is not limited to dramatic events.
Sometimes the testimony is:
“God gave me strength.”
“God gave me peace.”
“God helped me forgive.”
“God gave me wisdom to make the right decision.”
“God provided exactly what I needed.”
“God kept me from making a wrong decision.”
“God helped me keep going.”
“God reminded me that I am not alone.”
The greatest evidence of God’s work is not always something that changed around us. Sometimes it is something God changed within us.
2. WHAT DID GOD DO THAT YOU ALMOST MISSED?
There are blessings we recognize immediately, and there are blessings we understand only later.
Joseph could not have understood everything that was happening when his life took a downward turn. Yet God was working through circumstances Joseph could not see clearly at the time.
Genesis 50:20 reminds us:
“But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.”
Sometimes we call something a disappointment when God is actually redirecting us.
Sometimes we call something a delay when God is preparing us.
Sometimes we call something a closed door when God is protecting us.
Sometimes we wonder why God did not answer our prayer according to our timetable, only to discover later that His wisdom was greater than our request.
Therefore, your testimony this week may not simply be:
“God gave me what I asked for.”
It may be:
“God did not give me what I wanted, but He gave me what I needed.”
That is also a testimony.
3. GOD ANSWERS PRAYER IN HIS OWN WAY
There are times when we pray specifically, expecting God to respond in a particular way.
But God is not our servant, and prayer is not a mechanism for giving God instructions.
We bring our requests to Him, but we trust His wisdom concerning the answer.
Jesus taught us to pray:
“Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
— Matthew 6:10
Sometimes God says yes.
Sometimes He says wait.
Sometimes He says no.
Sometimes He answers differently from what we expected.
And sometimes we discover that God was already taking care of something before we even thought to pray about it.
That is why we should not measure God’s goodness solely by whether He followed our instructions.
God’s goodness is greater than the answer we expected.
4. WHAT DID GOD PROVIDE THIS WEEK?
Provision is one of the easiest ways to recognize God’s faithfulness.
Ask yourself:
Did God provide something I needed?
Did He provide an opportunity?
Did He provide people to help me?
Did He provide wisdom?
Did He provide strength?
Did He provide finances?
Did He provide encouragement?
Did He provide a way forward when I could not see one?
Philippians 4:19 declares:
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Provision does not always arrive in the form we expect.
Sometimes God provides through another person.
Sometimes through an opportunity.
Sometimes through our own abilities and resources.
Sometimes through an unexpected door.
And sometimes God provides by teaching us contentment with what we already have.
5. WHAT DID GOD PROTECT YOU FROM?
One of the most overlooked testimonies is divine protection.
We normally testify about what happened.
But what about the things that did not happen?
Perhaps you avoided an accident.
Perhaps a particular opportunity did not materialize.
Perhaps a relationship ended.
Perhaps a plan failed.
Perhaps you were prevented from going somewhere.
Perhaps a decision you wanted to make was blocked.
We may never know everything God has protected us from.
Psalm 121:7 says:
“The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.”
There may be testimonies in your life that you cannot tell because you never knew what God prevented.
Some of God’s greatest acts of protection are invisible to us.
6. WHAT DID GOD TEACH YOU THIS WEEK?
God does not only bless us; He also teaches us.
Perhaps this week God taught you patience.
Perhaps He taught you forgiveness.
Perhaps He taught you humility.
Perhaps He showed you that you were depending too much on people instead of Him.
Perhaps He exposed an attitude that needed to change.
Perhaps He taught you to wait.
Perhaps He reminded you to trust Him.
James 1:2–4 teaches that trials can produce spiritual maturity.
Therefore, even a difficult week can become a testimony if God used it to transform you.
You can say:
“It was not an easy week, but God taught me something through it.”
That is a testimony.
7. WHAT DID GOD DO INSIDE YOU?
This may be the most important question.
Did God give you greater peace?
Did He increase your faith?
Did He help you overcome fear?
Did He give you compassion for someone?
Did He help you release bitterness?
Did He restore your joy?
Did He give you courage?
Did He bring you back to prayer?
Did He make you hungry for His Word?
Galatians 5:22–23 describes the fruit of the Spirit.
Sometimes the greatest evidence that God is working in our lives is not that our circumstances have changed, but that we have changed.
The situation may still be difficult, but we are responding differently because Christ is working within us.
8. DON’T ONLY SHARE SOMEONE ELSE’S TESTIMONY
There is nothing wrong with celebrating what God has done for someone else.
We should rejoice with those who rejoice.
But there is a danger when our Christian conversation becomes filled with other people’s testimonies while we have nothing personal to say about God’s work in our own lives.
We know what God did for David.
We know what God did for Moses.
We know what God did for Elijah.
We know what God did for Peter and Paul.
We know testimonies from other Christians.
But the question is:
What has God done in YOUR life?
Your testimony does not have to compete with somebody else’s testimony.
You do not need a dramatic story.
You simply need to tell the truth about what God has done.
9. YOUR TESTIMONY CAN ENCOURAGE SOMEONE ELSE
Revelation 12:11 speaks about overcoming through the blood of the Lamb and the word of testimony.
Your testimony may be exactly what someone else needs to hear.
Someone may be thinking:
“God has forgotten me.”
Your testimony may remind them that God is faithful.
Someone may be saying:
“I don’t know how I am going to make it through this.”
Your testimony may give them courage.
Someone may be wondering:
“Does prayer really matter?”
Your testimony may encourage them to keep praying.
Someone may be experiencing a delay.
Your testimony may teach them to wait on God.
Your story may become somebody else’s encouragement.
10. DON’T WAIT FOR A BIG TESTIMONY
Don’t wait until you experience a spectacular miracle before you start testifying.
Start with today.
“God gave me strength today.”
“God answered a small prayer.”
“God provided something I needed.”
“God gave me peace.”
“God helped me through a difficult conversation.”
“God protected my family.”
“God opened a door.”
“God closed a door.”
“God reminded me of His Word.”
“God gave me another opportunity to serve Him.”
Small testimonies can produce great encouragement.
11. MAKE IT A WEEKLY SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE
Imagine if every believer stopped once a week and recorded three things:
What did God do?
What did God teach me?
How did God use me?
After one year, you would have a personal record of God’s faithfulness.
You would discover something powerful:
God was working far more often than you realized.
Psalm 77:11 says:
“I will remember the works of the LORD.”
Remembering God’s works strengthens our faith for tomorrow.
Yesterday’s faithfulness becomes today’s confidence.
12. THE TWIST: WHAT CAN I LEARN?
The deeper lesson is this:
God’s activity in our lives is not limited to the spectacular.
We must learn to recognize God in the ordinary, the unexpected, the delayed, the difficult, and even the unanswered.
Maybe God did not change your circumstances this week.
But perhaps He changed you.
Maybe He did not open the door you wanted.
But perhaps He protected you by keeping it closed.
Maybe He did not answer your prayer immediately.
But perhaps He was teaching you to trust His timing.
Maybe nothing dramatic happened.
But you are still standing.
That itself can become a testimony of God’s sustaining grace.
13. FINAL REFLECTION
Before this week ends, stop and ask yourself:
What has God done for me this week?
What did He provide?
What did He protect me from?
What prayer did He answer?
What prayer am I still waiting for?
What did He teach me?
Where did He give me strength?
Where did He give me peace?
Who did He place in my life?
How did He change me?
And perhaps most importantly:
What can I testify about God’s faithfulness this week?
Don’t allow God’s blessings to become ordinary simply because they happen repeatedly.
Wake up. Notice. Remember. Give thanks. Testify.
Because somebody may need to hear what God has done in your life.
14. A SIMPLE WEEKLY TESTIMONY
This week, God ____.
I saw His hand when ____.
He taught me ____.
He helped me ____.
I am thankful because ____.
My testimony is: God is ____.
Don’t just share someone else’s testimony.
Tell the world what God is doing in YOUR life.
