Short Reflection

You know the vigil. The mailbox checked twice. The inbox refreshed until your thumb is sore. The prayer that has become a transaction, a cosmic order placed with escalating urgency. You have read this verse like a guarantee. Those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. You have counted yourself among the seekers. You have fasted, worshiped, served, sown seeds, claimed the promise. And still — the lion prowls. The bank account roars empty. The refrigerator hums with absence. The opportunity does not come. You feel the weakness. You feel the hunger. You look at the lions of this world, the ones who do not seek the LORD, and they seem fat and sleek while you, the faithful one, waste away. You think your problem is delay. You think God is testing your patience. You think the provision is coming, perhaps tomorrow, perhaps next month, perhaps in the kingdom come.

You think you are the righteous seeker waiting for your good thing.

But stop.

You are not the seeker who lacks.

You are the lion who devours.

You are not waiting for provision. You are waiting for prey. You have grown weak and hungry not because God has withheld, but because you have been feeding on the wrong things — on the energy of other people, on the admiration of your circle, on the flesh of reputations you have torn apart, on the marrow of ministries you have consumed to build your own. You are a predator dressed in worship clothes. You seek the LORD, yes — but only as a means to an end. You want the good things He can provide, not the Goodness that He is. You want the blessing, not the Blesser. You want the bread, not the Bread of Life. And when the prey does not appear, when the provision does not drop, you growl. You accuse. You pace your cage and call it faith.

You think the lions in this verse are the wicked, the worldly, the ones who do not know God. Look closer. The lions are strong. They are powerful. They are exactly what you have been trying to be — self-sufficient, dominant, capable of taking what they need by force. And they grow weak and hungry because the jungle always wins. The prey runs out. The muscles atrophy. The kingdom of tooth and claw collapses under its own violence. You have been trying to provide for yourself by devouring others, and God has withheld the kill because He is trying to starve the predator out of you.

"Those who seek the LORD lack no good thing." You have read this as a promise that your material needs will be met. It is not. It is a statement of possession. Those who seek the LORD already have the only good thing. The seeking is the having. The good thing is not a what. It is a Who. And you have spent your life demanding a what while ignoring the Who.

You are not waiting for God to give you something. You are waiting for God to become your everything. And you are terrified of that answer, because "everything" does not include the house, the health, the platform, or the security you have been calling "good things." The only good thing is Christ. And if you have Him, you lack nothing — even if you lose everything else.

And here is what God did with a hungry lion like you: He sent the only Lion who ever laid down His prey.

Jesus had the power. He had the teeth, the muscle, the right to devour. He was the Lion of Judah, the heir of all things, the one who could have taken the kingdom by force and filled His belly with the riches of the nations. Instead, He became weak. He became hungry. "I have food to eat that you know nothing about." He wandered the wilderness with no place to lay His head. He hungered in the desert. He thirsted at the well. He fasted forty days while the Tempter offered Him the very provision you crave — bread, power, spectacle — and He refused. He chose emptiness. He chose weakness. He chose the hunger of perfect obedience over the feast of self-will.

And then, on the cross, He became the weakest of all. Forsaken. Thirsty. Naked. The Lion roared in silence and received no answer. He lacked every good thing — the Father's presence, the comfort of heaven, the dignity of a decent death — so that predators like you could be transformed into seekers who find. He starved so you could feast on God. He was emptied so you could be filled with the only Good Thing that lasts.

Stop checking the mailbox. Stop refreshing the inbox. Stop measuring your spirituality by the speed of God's delivery. You already have the good thing. You have Christ. And if He is not enough, then no amount of provision will ever be.

What Does This Mean?

You are not a faithful seeker waiting on a stingy God. You are a predator waiting for prey, and God is starving your flesh so you will learn to feed on Him alone. Christ became the weak and hungry Lion so that your hunger could be satisfied forever in His fullness.

How Does This Apply to Me?

Have I been seeking the LORD, or have I been seeking His stuff while using His name?

What "good thing" am I demanding that, if I received it, would only feed the predator in me?

Who have I devoured — whose energy, reputation, or resources have I consumed to fill my own hunger?

Do I believe Christ is the good thing, or do I believe He is the delivery system for my comfort?

Am I willing to be weak and hungry in my flesh if it means I learn to feast on God?

One Truth to Carry

You do not lack provision. You lack appetite for the only Provider. Christ became weak and hungry so that you, in Him, could lack no good thing.

Short Prayer

Lord, I have been a lion dressed as a lamb. I have sought You for what You can give, not for who You are. I have devoured others while claiming to wait on Your provision. Thank You that Jesus, the true Lion, laid down His power and became weak, hungry, and forsaken so that I could stop feeding on the world and feast on God. Starve the predator in me. Let Christ be my only good thing. In Jesus' name, Amen.
