JESUS & THE FATHER ONE? (5)

(Message by Tanny Keng)

0. Introduction

a) How exactly are Jesus and the Father ONE? Was Jesus CREATED or has he eternally existed with the Father? Is our Savior the GOD of the Old Testament who created man and dealt with Noah, Abraham, Moses, the nation of Israel and all the prophets? How is the Father GREATER than our Lord?

1. Worthy of worship

a) If Christ was worshipped by anyone without Him rebuking him (see Revelation 22:8-9, etc.) that would prove he was very Godly.

b) Some will reply that the word 'worshipped' in the New Testament can refer to people paying their respects to a king, etc. Note what Peter and the disciples said when Christ walked on the water and had the winds become calm the minute he got into their boat.

i) "And those in the ship came and worshipped Him, saying, 'You are truly the Son of God.'" (Matthew 14:33)

c) Notice also what the apostles stated and did right after Jesus' resurrection.

i) "But as they were going to tell His disciples, all at once Jesus Himself met them, saying, 'Hail!' And they came to Him and held His feet, and worshipped Him." (Matthew 28:9; cf. verse 17):

d) Hebrews 1:6 states the angels worshipped Christ. Is he then just a 'super' angel worthy of worship? Let's look at verse 8.

i) "But on the other hand, of the Son He says, 'Your throne, O God, is into the ages of eternity; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom."

e) Identifying Jesus as the Creator, Paul plainly applies to Jesus the Psalmist's words about Yahweh (Psalm 102:18-22). Since Jesus is Yahweh, He is surely worthy of the angels' worship!

The End ...
