Do You Know Your Rights?
Your Legal Spiritual Rights
As a child of God, you have legal spiritual rights, but you have to know what they are to exercise them. These rights are not earned; they are inherited. They are not achieved; they are received. When you accepted Jesus as your Savior, you entered into a covenant relationship with God. You were adopted into His family. You became an heir to His promises. You were given rights and privileges that you did not have before. But like any inheritance, you must know what you have and how to claim it.
Citizens of the Kingdom
As a believer, you are a citizen of the Kingdom of God, and you have a right to everything in the Kingdom. There is a covenant between Jesus and God, signed in Jesus' blood, which provides these rights for you. If Jesus is your Lord, then you are in right-standing with God—you have the righteousness of God. You have a right to everything God has. You are not a stranger or a foreigner; you are a fellow citizen with the saints and a member of God's household. You have access to the resources of the Kingdom.
Heirs to the Promises
When you accepted Jesus as your Savior, you received rights and privileges you did not have before, because you became heirs to His promises. In Galatians 4:1-7, Paul explains that we are no longer slaves but children, and if children, then heirs. You have legal rights in the spiritual realm, but you have to take your place and exercise them. The inheritance is yours, but you must claim it. The promises are yours, but you must believe them. The victory is yours, but you must walk in it.
Seven Rights You Have
Here are seven rights you have as a child of God. First, you have the right to be free. John 8:36 declares, "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." You are not bound by sin, fear, or bondage. You are free.
Second, you have the right to be healed. Isaiah 53:5 says, "By His stripes we are healed." Healing is your inheritance.
Third, you have the right to prosper. 2 Corinthians 9:8 promises, "And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others."
Fourth, you have the right to never fear again. Romans 8:15 says, "For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, 'Abba, Father.'"
Fifth, you have the right to have peace. Psalm 29:11 declares, "The Lord will bless His people with peace."
Sixth, you have the right to use the Name of Jesus. 1 John 3:23 says, "And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ."
Seventh, you have the right to always triumph. 2 Corinthians 2:14 declares, "Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ."
How to Exercise Your Rights
How can you exercise these rights? You have the right to ask God anything according to His will and expect it to be done for you. You have a right to your healing, redemption, and victory. You have a right to pray. You have a right to your Father's fellowship. You have the right to resist Satan and to expect him to flee. Jesus came to earth and gave Himself as a sacrifice for sin to buy back your rights. Once you receive Him as Lord of your life, all the rights and privileges God originally intended for you are restored. But you are the one who has to exercise those rights.
Enforce the Defeat of the Enemy
You see, the devil is an outlaw, and even though Jesus has taken away his authority and he has no legal right to kill or steal from the children of God, he will do it anyway as long as we let him get away with it. You must enforce his defeat by speaking the Word of God in faith. Act on His Word now. Speak triumph and victory over every situation in your life, according to His promises. Then refuse to back off that demand. Resist the devil with all you have. He might fight you for a while, but sooner or later, he will have to flee from you.
Walk in Your Rights
Now that you know your rights as a child of God, you can walk in freedom, healing, and abundance. You do not ever have to fear again. You can have perfect peace. You can use the Name of Jesus. You can triumph every day. Knowing your rights is the first step to taking everything that belongs to you. You have the right to be victorious. Do not let the enemy steal what is yours. Stand on the promises of God. Speak His Word. And walk in the fullness of your inheritance.
Prayer of Declaration
Lord, I thank You that I am a child of God. I thank You for the rights and privileges that are mine through the blood of Jesus. I declare that I am free. I am healed. I am prosperous. I am fearless. I am peaceful. I have authority in the Name of Jesus. I always triumph in Christ. I resist the devil, and he must flee. I walk in victory today. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
