BIBLICAL HEALTHCARE (2)

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Home in providing healthcare

a) From our earlier healthcare series, we have discussed the role of biblical nutrition, the quality of air we breathe, the purity of the water we drink, the exercise we do, the necessary rest we take and the regular fasting that will promote health and prolong life. All these health factors together with many others are provided, maintained and exercised in the home.

b) Here are some ways in which our home can provide healthcare.

#1) Harmonious home

i) It adds to the health of each family member. A loving caring family will speed recovery and ease the pain of sickness. A loving family had been the motivation that caused many people to fight off all odds and survived sicknesses for the sake of their loved ones. Today more and more healthcare is taken out of the home and centered in the hospitals. This brings the cost of healthcare very high. Certain medical problem must be treated in the hospital. However, the homes place God's program for healthcare must be further enhanced and encouraged.

#2) Healthy attitudes

i) The home must be the place of accountability for attitudes of forgiveness and clearing of conscience. If it is not done, bitterness and guilt will develop and poison our system, thus providing innumerable medical, psychological and spiritual problems.

#3) Nutritious meals

i) The praiseworthy wife and godly mother as described in Proverbs 31 take special care in planning and preparing nutritious meals. She must know biblical nutrition and biblical healthcare.

@1. 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. 15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. (Proverbs 31:14-15 NIV)

ii) This will result in well-balanced, nutritious meals with increased health in the family and decreased medical bill.

iii) A godly mother also understands the value of fasting and the place of self-control in promoting health. God designed fasting for specific spiritual objectives. Those who voluntarily set aside one or more meals in order to spend time reading God's word and in prayer will be drawn closer to the Lord. They will discern God's leading more clearly and receive his promised blessing.

@1. 16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (Matthew 6:16-18 NIV)

iv) Fasting will also achieve significant physical benefits, especially eliminating dangerous toxins in the body system and accelerate and enhance the healing process.

#4) Home treatments

i) Many patients go into the hospital with one problem and come out with another. The difficulty of maintaining sanitary condition is a constant challenge to hospital administration. Whenever possible the home should be considered for the treatment and recovery from medical problems. This is to be done with the support and help of the church's healthcare department .

ii) Is there any?

#5) Medical decisions

i) A father is the spiritual leader of the home, he must also take leadership in medical decisions for the family in consultations with the grandfather and the healthcare department of the Church. Every parent must learn and understand the basic functioning of the human body and some basic medical procedures and treatments. Whenever a certain illness comes upon any member of the family, some research on that sickness must be done, and that member to be brought to the healthcare department of the Church for prayer by the elders and seek further wisdom and direction form the Lord. Whenever any member of the family goes to see a doctor it is wise that the father accompanies him / her. This is for protection, covering and direction.

The End ...
