INVESTMENTS (1)

(Message by Tanny Keng)

0. Introduction

a) Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly." Christ came with the mission of giving unto all of us abundant life. Yet at the same time, the Scripture mentions someone else," 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10 NIV).

b) As we aim at passing on the spiritual heritage to our children, the evil one works hard at robbing the investments we put into our children's lives. We do not need to fear the plunder of the evil one, but rather we work diligently at protecting our children's life and faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus already prayed for our victory in this area, we just need faith to maintain it.

i) 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. (John 17:15 NIV)

1. Cleanse our home

a) What parent allows in moderation, their children excuse in excess.

i) 22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin. (Romans 14:22-23 NIV)

ii) 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. (1 Thessalonians 4:7 NIV)

b) We must protect our children from evil influences.

i) Immorality, violence and false philosophies from the mass media TV, worldly magazines, internet, pornography etc.

ii) Destructive drugs dependency which leads to addiction.

@1. 31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly!
32 In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. 33 Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mind will imagine confusing things. 34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. 35 “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?” (Proverbs 23:31-35 NIV)

@2. 22 Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks, 23 who acquit the guilty for a bribe, but deny justice to the innocent. (Isaiah 5:22-23 NIV)

@3. 1Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. (Proverbs 20:1 NIV)

@4. 12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. (1 Corinthians 6:12 NIV)

@5. There are 2 types of wines mentioned in the Bible. Unfermented wine was called "new wine". It was freshly squeezed grapes. Fermented wine was an intoxicating beverage ("strong drink").

iii) Rock music and its Rock culture, rebellion, drugs and immorality.

@1. 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. (1 John 2:15 NIV)

@2. 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:19 NIV)

@3. When God's people mingled among the heathen and ungodly, they learnt their evil ways and serve their gods. This will then become a snare and caused them to be defiled and reap the wrath of God.

#1) 35 but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs. 36 They worshiped their idols,   which became a snare to them. 37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to false gods. 38 They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood. 39 They defiled themselves by what they did;   by their deeds they prostituted themselves. 40 Therefore the Lord was angry with his people and abhorred his inheritance. 41 He gave them into the hands of the nations, and their foes ruled over them. (Psalms 106:35-41 NIV)

The End ...
