PEOPLE LOOK LIKE TREES
(Message by Tanny Keng)
0. Introduction
a) People look like trees
i) 22 They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.” (Mark 8:22-26 NIV)
1. What is the text all about?
a) Why did Jesus touch the man a second time before he could see? This miracle was not too difficult for Jesus, but he chose to do it in stages, possibly to show the disciples that some healing would be gradual rather than instantaneous or to demonstrate that spiritual truth is not always perceived clearly at first.
b) Before Jesus left, however, the man was healed completely.
2. Prayer focus
a) Pray that we would be patient enough to wait for complete healing from our Lord Jesus Christ.
i) 12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon. (Psalms 92:12 NIV)
The End ...
