1. Give our children godly heroes
a) When Jesus taught the parable of the unclean spirit in Matthew 12:43-45, our Lord emphasized the danger of creating a vacuum by simply removing that which is evil; it must be replaced by the good.
i) 43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” (Matthew 12:43-45 NIV)
b) Providing them with godly heroes.
i) 20 Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. (Proverbs 13:20 NIV)
@1. Great men and women of faith. Biblical heroes: Enoch, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joseph. Rahab (see Hebrews 11).
@2. Non-biblical heroes (biographies): John Wesley, Hudson Taylor, Fanny Crosby, William Booth, Adoniram Judson.
c) Godly men and women today who have high standards of biblical commitments.
@1. Godly pastors and their families.
@2. Godly missionaries and their families.
@3. Godly Christians who have similar commitments.
d) Guide them in their friendship.
i) Friends who will support and strengthen their godly lifestyles and commitments. Otherwise, they mix with wrong friends and get into troubles. For example, Dinah made friends with the ungodly and was destroyed morally.
@1. 1Now Dinah, the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land. 2 When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, the ruler of that area, saw her, he took her and raped her. (Genesis 34:1-2 NIV)
ii) Friends who will encourage them to serve and live for the Lord and help them with wise decisions.
e) Disciple your children in the ministry rather than vocation.
i) 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33 NIV)
@1. It is the ministry of the message he or she develops and shares through his home, church and workplace.
The End ...
