NUMBER TEN (10-11)

0. Introduction

a) In the Bible the number 10 is used 242 times in scripture and "10th" is used 79 times. A historically significant number, 10 signifies testimony, law and responsibility. The number ten is also viewed as a complete number, as is 3, 7 and 12. Ten is made up of 4, the number of the physical creation, and 6, the number of man. It is interesting to note what other mention(s) for 10 can be found in the Bible.

1. When did FIRE come down from Heaven?

a) Fire came down from heaven ten times, six of which were in judgment: 

i) Genesis 19:24, on Sodom.

ii) Leviticus 9:24, on the first offerings.

iii) Leviticus 10:2, on Nadab and Abihu.

iv) Numbers 11:1, on the murmurers at Taberah.

v) Numbers 16:35, on Korah and his company.

vi) 1 Kings 18:38, on Elijah's offering at Carmel.

vii) 2 Kings 1:10, on Elijah's enemies.

viii) 2 Kings 1:12, on Elijah's enemies.

ix) 1 Chronicles 21:26, on David's sacrifice.

x) 2 Chronicles 7:1, on Solomon's sacrifice.
