COVENANT INSTITUTED: SUMMARY

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Covenant Instituted

a) We see that the new covenant came through a unique mediator, from a unilateral origin, with universal application.

b) Definitions:

i) Unique: One of a kind. There is no other like Jesus.

ii) Unilateral: One sided. God did not negotiate his covenant. He made it without any help from his created beings.

iii) Universal: For the whole wide world, all humankind.

2. Summary

a) God did not negotiate the new covenant with human beings. He mediated it to them through the appointed High Priest Jesus who offered himself as the necessary sacrifice.

b) Through the authority of Jesus, every person has a “covenant relationship” with God. Everybody is subject to the new covenant.

c) The new covenant is a law, because it is conditional, with either of two outcomes for each person — namely grace or wrath. Which of those alternatives is the outcome for any individual, depends on whether that person complies with the terms or commandments of the covenant.

d) That is how the new covenant was instituted.

The End ...
