EVIL WORDS SPOKEN IN THE AIR

A Response to "Evil Words Spoken in the Air"
The Priority of Reconciliation
Confessing your wrongs to God is essential, but it may not be good enough if you have wronged another person. It may not be your first step. The Bible gives a clear order: first, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift to God. In Matthew 5:23-24, Jesus teaches that if you bring your gift to the altar and remember that your brother has something against you, you are to leave your gift there before the altar, go your way, first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. This is a radical prioritization. Vertical worship is incomplete without horizontal reconciliation. We cannot claim to love God while harboring unresolved conflict with others.
Why Reconciliation Comes First
Why must we prioritize reconciliation? Because you have transgressed against your brother. When we sin against one another, the relationship is fractured. The wound, whether intentional or unintentional, needs to be addressed. Matthew 18:15 instructs us to go to our brother and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. Galatians 6:1 calls those who are spiritual to restore a brother overtaken in a trespass with a spirit of gentleness. The goal is not just to be right but to restore the relationship. Reconciliation is not an optional extra; it is an essential part of walking in love and obedience to God.
The Outcome of Reconciliation
If you have done all these—if you have humbled yourself, gone to your brother, sought forgiveness, and reconciled—then not only will God have forgiven you, but you have gained your brother. The relationship is restored. The offense is addressed. The breach is healed. And you can now come to God with a clean heart and clear conscience. Your gift is no longer hindered by unresolved conflict. Your worship is no longer polluted by unforgiveness. You are free to offer your sacrifice to God with joy and confidence.
Evil Words Broken
Your evil words spoken in the air are totally broken and dissipated when you have been reconciled. When you confess your sin to God and make things right with your brother, the power of those words is destroyed. The enemy has nothing to hold against you. He cannot use your unresolved conflict to accuse you, condemn you, or keep you in bondage. The words that were spoken in anger, carelessness, or malice are nullified by the power of repentance and reconciliation. The blood of Jesus cleanses you from all unrighteousness. And the enemy's accusations lose their ground.
The Protection of Reconciliation
Reconciliation is not just about making peace with others; it is also about protecting yourself from the enemy's attacks. When you harbor unforgiveness, you give the enemy a foothold. When you refuse to reconcile, you open a door for bitterness to take root. When you leave conflicts unresolved, you create a vulnerable place in your spiritual armor. But when you humble yourself, seek forgiveness, and make things right, you close those doors. You remove the foothold. You pull out the root. And you stand firm against the schemes of the enemy.
The Power of a Clear Conscience
A clear conscience is a powerful weapon. When you know that you have done everything you can to make things right, you can stand with confidence before God and before others. You can pray without hindrance. You can worship without reservation. You can serve without distraction. Your words are no longer poisoned by guilt or shame. Your heart is no longer weighed down by unresolved conflict. You are free to live in the fullness of God's grace.
Final Reflection
Evil words spoken in the air are not just words; they are spiritual weapons that can be used against you. But when you repent, reconcile, and restore relationships, those weapons are broken. The enemy has nothing to hold against you. You are free. Do not let pride, fear, or stubbornness keep you from reconciliation. Do not let unresolved conflict fester and poison your soul. Go to your brother. Seek forgiveness. Make things right. And then come to God with a clean heart and a clear conscience. Your words will be broken. Your relationship will be restored. And you will walk in freedom.
Prayer for Reconciliation
Lord, forgive me for the times I have wronged others and left conflicts unresolved. Help me to humble myself and seek reconciliation. Give me the courage to go to my brother and make things right. Let my words be healed, and let my heart be cleansed. Break the power of every evil word I have spoken. Protect me from the enemy's accusations. Help me to walk in love and forgiveness. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
