The Lord sent Elijah to intercept the messengers with a piercing question: "Is it true that there is no God in Israel? Is that why you are going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether the king will get well?" This question exposes the heart of Ahaziah. He had access to the living God, but he sought help from a dead idol. He had the God of Israel, but he turned to the god of a foreign nation. His actions declared that he did not believe there was any power in the God of Israel to help him.

The Death of Ahaziah

Elijah delivered the message of judgment: "Because King Ahaziah has done this, the Lord says that he will never leave the bed he is lying on; he will surely die." And so it happened. Ahaziah died as the Lord had predicted through Elijah. His death was not a random tragedy; it was a divine judgment. He had rejected the God of Israel and sought help from a false god. He had treated the Lord as if He were powerless. And God responded to his unbelief with a verdict of death.

Who Determines Your Time?

Death is inevitable for everyone. When a person's time is up, they have to leave this earth. But who determines your time to go? Is it the critical situation you are in, or the deteriorating stage you are facing, or your final stage of near death? The fact is this: God determines your stay on earth. He is the One who numbers your days. He is the One who sets the boundaries of your life. No situation, no illness, no enemy can cut short what God has ordained. Your life is in His hands. And no one can take it from you until He says it is time.

The Final Say

Yes, we may go through necessary medical treatments. We may seek the best doctors, the best hospitals, and the best care. These are gifts of God's grace. But still, God has the final say. He is the One who heals. He is the One who sustains. He is the One who decides. We should not reject medical help, but we should never place our ultimate trust in it. Our ultimate trust must be in the Lord. He is the One who gives life, and He is the One who takes it away. He is the One who can heal, and He is the One who can call us home. His will is perfect, and His timing is sovereign.

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

Proverbs 3:5-6 gives us the correct response: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." Do not lean on your own understanding. Do not rely on your own wisdom or the opinions of others. Trust in the Lord. Acknowledge Him in all your ways. Let Him direct your paths. When you face sickness, uncertainty, or death, do not turn to the idols of this world. Do not seek help from sources that have no power. Turn to the Lord. Trust in the Lord. He is the One who has the final say.

Hope in God

In God, there is always hope. Job declared, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him." This is the ultimate expression of faith. Job did not understand his suffering. He could not see the end of his trial. But he trusted in God. He refused to let go of his faith. Even in the face of death, he declared his trust in the Lord. This is the hope that we have. Even when the situation seems hopeless, God is still on the throne. Even when the diagnosis is grim, God is still the Healer. Even when death approaches, God is still the Life-giver. There is always hope in God.

Is it true that there is no God in Israel? Of course not. The God of Israel is the one true God. He is the Creator, the Sustainer, and the Redeemer. He is the Healer, the Deliverer, and the Restorer. He is the One who numbers our days and holds our lives in His hands. Do not turn to idols. Do not rely on false gods. Turn to the Lord. Trust in the Lord. And acknowledge Him in all your ways.
