ACADEMIC REGULATIONS, STUDENT ADMISSIONS, ASSESSMENT, GRADUATION, AND STUDENT LIFE

13.1 Introduction

The SDC School of Ministry (SDSM) seeks to provide a learning environment that promotes academic excellence, biblical faithfulness, spiritual maturity, and practical ministry preparation.

This chapter establishes the academic regulations governing admissions, student responsibilities, assessments, attendance, graduation requirements, discipline, and student life.

These policies apply to all students unless otherwise specified by programme regulations approved by Sunshine Destiny Communications (SDC).

13.2 Admission Policy

Admission to SDSM is based upon the applicant's willingness to pursue biblical and theological education within the framework of the mission and values of Sunshine Destiny Communications.

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • A profession of faith in Jesus Christ.
  • A desire to learn and serve.
  • Good Christian testimony.
  • Agreement with the Statement of Faith.
  • Willingness to comply with academic regulations.
  • Respect for SDC governance.

Admission remains subject to approval by the School of Ministry.

13.3 Categories of Students

SDSM may admit students under the following categories:

A. Certification Student

A Certification Student is enrolled for academic credit and seeks formal certification upon successful completion of programme requirements.

Certification Students are expected to:

  • Complete assignments.
  • Participate in class discussions.
  • Meet attendance requirements.
  • Fulfill academic standards.
  • Complete financial obligations where applicable.

B. Audit Student

An Audit Student participates in classes for personal enrichment without seeking academic certification.

Audit Students:

  • May attend lectures.
  • May participate in discussions.
  • Are not required to complete assessments unless specified.
  • Do not receive academic grades.
  • Receive a Certificate of Participation only if approved by SDSM.

C. Special Student

From time to time, SDSM may admit Special Students for individual courses, seminars, workshops, or continuing education programmes.

Admission conditions shall be determined by the School.

13.4 Admission Requirements

Applicants should normally submit:

  • Completed application form.
  • Identification documents where required.
  • Educational qualifications (where applicable).
  • Ministry experience (if applicable).
  • Passport-sized photograph (where required).
  • Payment of applicable fees.

The School reserves the right to request additional information.

13.5 Recognition of Prior Ministry Experience

SDSM recognizes that valuable ministry experience may provide an appropriate basis for admission into certain programmes.

Accordingly, applicants with significant ministry experience may be considered for admission or advanced standing where permitted by programme regulations.

Recognition shall remain subject to academic review.

13.6 Academic Calendar

The School shall publish an official academic calendar for each intake.

The calendar normally includes:

13.7 Class Attendance

  • Follow instructor guidance regarding participation.

Online learning should reflect the same standards expected in physical classrooms.

13.9 Assignments

Assignments are intended to reinforce learning and encourage thoughtful engagement with Scripture and ministry.

Students should:

  • Submit original work.
  • Meet published deadlines.
  • Follow assignment instructions.
  • Cite sources appropriately.
  • Demonstrate biblical understanding.

Late submission policies shall be determined by the School.

13.10 Assessment

Student assessment may include:

  • Written assignments.
  • Research papers.
  • Reflection papers.
  • Class participation.
  • Ministry projects.
  • Oral presentations.
  • Quizzes.
  • Examinations.

Assessment methods may vary according to programme requirements.

13.11 Grading System

The School shall publish grading standards for each programme.

Unless otherwise specified:

  • Coursework contributes 70%.
  • Participation contributes 20%.
  • Attendance contributes 10%.

The minimum passing mark shall be 60%.

13.12 Academic Integrity

Academic honesty is essential to Christian education.

Students shall not engage in:

  • Plagiarism.
  • Cheating.

  • Unauthorized collaboration.

Violations may result in disciplinary action.

13.15 Student Discipline

Discipline should always pursue correction and restoration.

Students shall have opportunity to respond before significant disciplinary decisions are made.

13.16 Appeals

Students may appeal academic or disciplinary decisions.

Appeals should:

  • Be submitted in writing.
  • State the grounds clearly.
  • Include supporting information.
  • Be submitted within the prescribed timeframe.

Appeals shall be reviewed fairly.

13.17 Graduation Requirements

Students shall normally graduate after:

  • Completing all required coursework.
  • Achieving the minimum passing grade.
  • Meeting attendance expectations.
  • Satisfying programme requirements.
  • Maintaining acceptable conduct.

Graduation signifies successful completion of the approved programme.

13.18 Awards and Academic Recognition

SDSM may confer awards including:

Presented to students demonstrating exemplary servant leadership.

Ministry Excellence Award

Presented to students demonstrating exceptional ministry application.

Additional awards may be established by the Academic Committee.

13.19 Student Welfare

The School seeks to encourage students spiritually, academically, and personally.

Student support may include:

  • Academic guidance.
  • Ministry mentoring.
  • Prayer support.
  • Pastoral encouragement.
  • Learning resources.

The School encourages a supportive Christian learning community.

13.20 Alumni

Graduates become members of the SDSM Alumni community.

The Alumni network exists to:

  • Encourage lifelong learning.
  • Foster ministry partnerships.
  • Promote continuing education.
  • Support graduates in ministry.
  • Maintain fellowship among alumni.

Graduates are encouraged to remain actively involved with SDC.

13.21 Amendments to Academic Policies

Academic regulations may be amended by the Academic Committee with the approval of the Management Board.

Changes shall not adversely affect students already enrolled unless necessary to comply with legal, ethical, or educational requirements.

The following programme policies are adopted by SDSM and may be updated by resolution of the Academic Committee and the Management Board:

Admission Pathways

Applicants may qualify for admission to programmes based on published academic requirements or approved ministry experience.

For the Diploma in Ministry and Theology, applicants may qualify through one of the following:

  • Successful completion of the SDSM Certificate in Ministry and Theology.
  • An equivalent theological certificate recognized by SDSM.
  • Ten (10) years or more of verified Christian ministry experience, subject to approval by the Academic Committee.
Payment Options

SDSM may offer approved tuition payment schemes, including the Pay As You Study (PAYS) programme.

The PAYS scheme is available to Malaysian students only, unless an exception is granted by SDSM.

Academic Progression

Successful completion of the Certificate programme may provide eligibility for admission into the Diploma programme, subject to current admission policies.
