a) Although the Jews were now free to dwell in and around their holy city Jerusalem, they were still under the rule of Persia. In 483 BC, king Ahasuerus (Xerxes) chose a Jewish woman as his queen. Her name was Esther.

a) A Jewish child of the Babylonian Captivity.
b) An orphan, adopted by her relative Mordecai.
c) Her Jewish name was Hadassah (Esther 2:7).
d) She was of the tribe of Benjamin.
e) Heroine of the book of Esther in the Bible.
f) Became queen of the Persian king Ahasuerus (Xerxes).
g) Risked her life to save her people from extinction.
