DAVID'S THRONE: GOD'S OATH

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. David's Throne

a) The times of Israel now brings us to when David takes the throne. In this, we follow more of David's adventures, but we are giving most of our attention to this promise about his throne and what it means.

2. God’s Oath

i) "The LORD has truly sworn to David, and will not turn back from it, 'The fruit of your body I will set upon your throne'" (Psalms 132:11).

ii) "I have made a covenant with my chosen; I have sworn to David my servant, 'I will establish your seed forever, and build up your throne to all generations'" (Psalms 89:3-4).

iii) Through Nathan the prophet God tells David, "When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. Your house and your kingdom shall endure before you forever. Your throne shall be established forever" (2 Samuel 7:12 13,16).

iv) Isaiah says, For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us, and the government will rest on his shoulders. And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of his government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness, from then on and for ever more. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this" (Isaiah 9:6-7).

The End ...
