CHRISTIAN LIFE TRAINING (1)
(Message by Tanny Keng)
0. Introduction
a) As a great amount of training is needed for athletic activities, so we must train diligently for the Christian life. Such training takes time, dedication, energy, continued practice, and vision. We must all commit ourselves to the Christian life, but we must first know the rules as prescribed in God's Word (2 Timothy 2:5).
i) 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. (2 Timothy 2:5 NKJV)
1. Text reference: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
i) 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NKJV)
2. Metaphors
a) Race.
3. Training
a) Go into strict training in order to get the prize.
4. Our goal as believers ...
a) We train ourselves to run the race of life. So we keep our eyes on Christ - the goal - and don't get sidetracked or slowed down. When we do this, we will win a reward in Christ's kingdom.
The End ...
