PROPHETS OF OLD - ELIJAH
(Message by Tanny Keng)
0. Introduction
a) 13 Yet the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His prophets, every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets.” (2 Kings 17:13 NKJV)
b) Who were these prophets? They were the ones who tried to turn their nations back to God. Predicting the future as revealed by God was just one part of a prophet's job; his main role was to preach God's word to the people - warning, instructing, and encouraging them to live as they ought.
c) Here is one of them.
1. Who?
a) Elijah.
2. When?
a) 875-848 B.C.
3. Ministered during the reign of these kings:
a) Ahab of Israel.
b) Scripture text: 1 Kings 17:1-2 Kings 2:11.
4. Main message
a) In fiery style, urged wicked Ahab to turn back to God. On Mount Carmel, he proved who is the one true God (1 Kings 18).
5. Significance
a) Even giant of faith can't force sinners to change. But those who remain faithful to God have a great impact for him.
