(Message by Tanny Keng)

0. Introduction

a) Let's look at Abraham in the New Testament.

1. Abraham was an ancestor of Jesus Christ.

a) Matthew 1:1-2, 17

ii) 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations. (Matthew 1:17 NKJV)

b) Luke 3:23, 34

i) 23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli. (Luke 3:23 NKJV)

ii) 34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor. (Luke 3:34 NKJV)

3. Explanation

a) Jesus Christ was human; he was born into the line of Abraham, whom God had chosen to be the father of a great nation through which the whole world would be blessed. We are blessed because of what Jesus Christ, Abraham's descendant, did for us.
