a) Like pointing out the similarities and differences between the photograph of a person, the writer of Hebrews shows the connection between the old Mosaic covenant and the new messianic covenant. He proves that the old covenant was a shadow of the real Christ.

1. The Old Covenant under Moses

i) Gifts and sacrifices by those guilty of sin.

a) The New Covenant in Christ

i) Self-sacrifice by the guiltless Christ.

b) Application

i) Christ died for you.

2. The Old Covenant under Moses

i) Focused on a physical building where one goes to worship.

a) The New Covenant in Christ

i) Focuses on the reign of Christ in the hearts of believers.

b) Application

i) God is directly involved in your life.

3. The Old Covenant under Moses

i) A shadow.

a) The New Covenant in Christ

i) A reality.

b) Application

i) Not temporal, but eternal.

4. The Old Covenant under Moses

i) Limited promises.

a) The New Covenant in Christ

i) Limitless promises.

b) Application

i) We can trust God's promises to us.

5. The Old Covenant under Moses

i) Failed agreement by people.

a) The New Covenant in Christ

i) Faithful agreement by Christ.

b) Application

i) Christ has kept the agreement when people couldn't.
